I just have two simple questions:

1) Does she like pie?

2) Does she like hot dogs?

If the answer to either question is no, then I say we throw her to the curb. Otherwise, I don't care what she makes. She certainly deserves to be making more than our vaunted football coach. At least she has college experience.

I'm a bit surprised we don't have a university president's house. There are several Victorian houses on Oak and Hickory streets worthy of being a presidential house. You would think it would be more economical to buy a house rather than keep paying presidents an extra $50k/year.

We used to have one back in the day. I can't remember which President decided it wasn't good enough for him and asked for a house stipend instead(I think it was mentioned in the History of NT book).

Years ago NT did have a President's home located where the Gateway Center sits now. I'm sure many of you remember it as the Alumni Center. NT hired Dr. Vandiver as President back in the 80's I think, and he decided to move off campus and NT started providing a housing allowance at that time.

As some of your may or may not know, I transferred here from Northwestern State University and President Webb lives in an on campus Presidential home. It's not a huge house but serves it's function. I do find it odd that UNT does not have a home for the President. It's not like we don't have land available.

UNT could follow the "We Mean Green" Theme and build an LEED certified house with solar panels, wind generators etc... oh and a roof made of sod (they have those you know)

Hmmm, I don't know about the sod roof, but the rest sounds interesting. It would be great pub for our University.

Does anyone know why the former President's house became so unacceptable to President Vandiver?

I would guess the location (right next to the pit), and the master plan of change on that part of campus, plus area off campus on that side started to decline about that time. Hurley lived in Montecito, and I thought the university owned that home, maybe not. I don't blame somebody for not living where they work anyway, and these admins certainly have a right to a personal life.

before i join all of you who have no problem with this... i want to find out if there is in fact a problem. i would love to see a study done on presidents pay plus perks and see where we line up. if it is status quo to remain competitive with others then i might not have a problem with it.

In my opinion it does seem that 500k is a bit excessive for the job. But, if this is the game we have to play to get better admins... then so be it i guess.

No school housing but a stipend is not uncommon today. The same with churches. Preachers tend to stay around and like to retire in their communities thus churches have sold their manses, and now give the preachers a housing allowance.

A free Lexus is one thing but their are other auto expenses - gas, oil, insurance, tires, etc. Too an allowance does not mean hey have to spend the entire amount but that it is avaiable if needed.t

Just an FYI, Beaumont ISD Superintendent Dr. Carroll Thomas receives an annual salary just shy of $335,000 per year. Not sure what all of his "perks" add up to.

I believe the president's home was lost with Jitter Nolan. In the infamous 70's, he turned the home over to student gatherings and such. When I graduated in 1975, the house was still standing, but Nolan no longer lived there.

As a comparison, I am an adjunct prof. at a small liberal arts college with a full time enrollment of less than 1000. The president makes 250K plus perks.
