"We have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms," Obama said to loud applause. "But I pledge to you that we seek an equal partnership"....

......after, Ortega, who was ousted in 1990 elections that ended Nicaragua's civil war but who was returned to power by voters in 2006, delivered a blistering 50-minute speech that denounced capitalism and U.S. imperialism as the root of much hemispheric mischief. The address even recalled the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, though Ortega said the new U.S. president could not be held to account for that.

"I'm grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old," Obama said.....

In January, Chavez said Obama had the same "stench" as former President Bush after Obama criticized Chavez for backing the FARC (Armed Revolutionary Forces of Columbia) guerillas in neighboring Columbia. Earlier this month during a trip to Iran, Chavez said he doubted relations would improve with the U.S. because Obama was still "president of an empire."

"I hope President Obama is the last president of the Yankee Empire, and the first president of a truly democratic republic, the United States," Chavez said, after declaring a visit to Tehran "is like arriving at one's own home."

Doesn't sound like an apology. Sounds like a sigh of relief having heard Ortega rant off. You need to go back and re-read the article, ace. Or you need to quote things that support your hastily and poorly constructed position. You could at least find something to actually criticize him for that actually sounds like an apology.

And for Chavez? Chavez is always chafed by the US despite his nation being in relative shambles. He just mouths off with little regard to the strength of what he says. I don't know why you thought it had anything to do with your post title.

If this were a day at the range, you'd be shooting BOLO here.

Next thing you know, Obama's gonna' apologize to the world for chicken fried steak, pecan pie and sweet tea.

We've already had that conversation, and some folks from Boston turned out to be pecan pie haters...I just don't get it.

The poor guy has no clue! He thinks he is "mending fences", but in reality he is simply telling the despots of the world that he can be "played like a fiddle" and that he is a VERY WEAK PRESIDENT when it comes to world affaris. Sure, he thinks he'll get a lot done, and he will, but it will be at the expense of the United States. So very sad in so many ways. He simply seems to have no clue. I will be glad when the "rear end kissing tour" is over.

Just as a reference for some of you: Diplomacy

Diplomacy is not a sign of weakness. A hand shake is not a sign of weakness. Respecting the leader of a foreign country is not a sign of weakness. It's tact.

Flaunting your bloated military-industrial complex anytime someone sneezes in your direction IS actually a sign of weakness...its kinda like they guy in the fancy red sports car who's insecure about his tiny package.

Actually...

Here's what I find funny:

Some think it's okay to be like that asshat QB of a football team who has little respect for his teammates. He boasts about his skills, talks about how he doesn't need the other players, and pushes them around on and off the field. He's disrespectful to anyone that doesn't agree with him, and starts fights that may not need to be started. Then he wonders why he gets blind-side hit by his own teammates or a DL that wasn't blocked properly. (See: Willie Beamen, first parts of Any Given Sunday)

Ideally, the US should be the dependable leader of his team. He doesn't boast, he does his job, sticks his neck out for his team, is the first man to practice and the last one to go home. He does more homework than anyone else, he's the smartest man on his team. His teammates (read: affiliate nations) will follow him to the ends of the earth because they know he's going to make the right decisions and be responsible for his mistakes. He leads by example, and earns respect with everything he does. (See: Cap Rooney and Willie Beamen *last half* same movie)

Who would you follow into a game?

It's like this: the US has limited resources. Period. It can either attempt to bully people into helping and quickly lose support, and then end up as a 3rd world nation. Or it can adapt to new situations, be a leader, be respectful, assist other nations when they need it, and the US will be able to look to other nations for help when it needs it.

Y'all do realize that Chavez is a bad guy, right? Y'all do believe in basic human rights, right? Besides the sucking up photo, he gave B.O. a book that is full of American blame for all of Latin America's problems and hate for our country, to which B.O. sickenly smiled and accepted and stated that it was a "Nice gesture". It was as if to say, "Oh, thank you Hugo, yes I hate America also and appreciate this and will use it in destroying it as it exists today". Now, any of our enemy's abroad will point to that photo opt and "Nice gesture" and use it to their advantage as to how to mistreat the U.S. and get by with it. Saturday, the Obama administration stated it had no intention of releasing the photo of the handshake, however, within an hour it was on the front page of the Venezuelan government website. Chavez will use to his advantage now in the worse way.

We should not deal with tyrants of Chavez's stature. This was pathetic behavior for a sitting U.S. president.

--- Give up ..you are looking like a poor loser.

Just remember the previous guy took a 5.6 trillion debt and changed it into 10.7 trillion.

He also took a Dow of 10,700 and changed it into 8,700. (dropped 5000 from the high before he left office )

He changed a budget surplus for six consecutive years into never balancing even one budget.

and the economy and unemployment is now the worse in decades and was at this past inauguration time..

We are also at war supposedly because they had WMD (he said knew where they were) and they were a threat to us. ( still can't find them).

That is conservative? ... I would hate to think what liberal was.

Those are the big reasons the party in the White House changed.

If those had not happened then your party would have won.

They deserved to lose based on the above.

Perhaps you should wait a while and see how things turn out.... It be be worse than the above but I highly doubt it.

PS: He is a Christian, not Islamic as many also tried to claim at one time. And he was born long before we heard of Saddam Hussein just as Adoph Briscoe and Adolph Coors was born prior to us hearing of A.H. (German). Truth is in short supply from some.

1. Bush didn't do it alone. A GOP Congress and a Democrat-controlled Congress in his last two years helped.

2. The President doesn't control the DOW, but if you're going to claim that he does then look at the Obama DOW.

3. As has been pointed out before, there was no surplus under Clinton - ever.

You are right, Republicans deserved to lose. But don't think that a Republican loss means that the American people are embracing liberal economics and a liberal social agenda. Obama and the Democrats won because Republicans were pissed off at their party in the last two elections and stayed home.

No one but his friends thinks Chavez is really worth anything. A handshake is being polite, and so what if Chavez makes more of it. It's not like anyone but his cronies take him seriously.

If you really believe this you might want to give some serious thought to his ties with Russia/Cuba/North Korea/Bolivia, etc.

Those are his friends and cronies. The rest of the respectable world thinks he's a nutcase. I don't think Kim Jong Il would be referred to as "respectable".

You asked:

20-Apr-09 -- 7,969.56 --market is now fairly stable.

12-Jan-09 -- 8,281.22

A 300 drop is a bit less than the 5000 during 2008.

---There was a surplus under Clinton... just because you want it to be true doesn't mean it is. You don't remember the debate in 2000 about what to do with it..??......fix social security, reduce taxes, or pay down the debt.

Nothing in politics happens that isn't planned out in advance. There are messages (overt and covert) sent all the time. Sometimes you have to read between the lines, sometimes you don't. In my opinion, any one of Obama's actions when looked at in isolation doesn't really amount to much. If you step back and apply the squint test, however, some patterns are emerging that *should* be enough to cause even those that supported him to start taking a closer look at what's going on. With respect to that picture, for example, how do you spin that? Is this a sign of respect between two heads of state (personally, I don't consider a dictator like Chavez a legitimate head of state, but it is what it is) or is it a friendly "brother in arms" type of embrace (does Chavez finally have a supporter of the "cause" in the Oval Office)? I don't know.

One thing that appears obvious is that Obama is a megalomaniac with an ego the size that has not been seen before. In his mind and in his words and actions it is all about Obama. Look at this quote.... "I'm grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old," Obama said..... He needs to start acting as the President of the United States of America and not as a politician on the campaign trail.
