So...I don't want to be an ass here, but I'm always wary when I see just shooting percentages or season totals for stats rather than per game...

Chynna Burwel - 4.2ppg, 2.8rpg, 0.5 apg, 10 blocks (0.8 bpg)...that is in 13 games, so I clearly don't have a full season of stats, but those numbers are very pedestrian.

And I wouldn't classify 45% as scoring at will for a post.

Not trying to be overly negative, but I'm more excited about the shooter than I am this post

Caitlin Hawkins had been posted previously. New a 6-4 post player shot over 45 % from floor in in 2 years at Trinity Valley CC, had 135 rebounds and 29 blocked shots ...

"one of the best post players in JC ranks" This one sounds like a great signing. OldTimer

It does sound good, but the girl apparently did not even start for TVCC. I fail to see how a player who based on partial stats did not average 5 pts or 3 rebound s a game is a great signing. SS's late season recruiting is looking more and more suspect.

You cannot blow off a 6'4" player before she even arrives in Denton. I like her height at her position.

Defensive presence, rebounding, and athelicism. If she can provide that, she's worth the scholly.

Looking at all the notes on her, she was coming off the bench because the starter was an juco all-american headed to LSU. I don't think that we are quite to the point where we get that player. Right?

But this one was recruited by major programs out of high school, including by Stephens when she was at Clemson. I think if Clemson and Virginia were willing to give her a scholarship, then perhaps we should actually give this young lady a chance to prove her mettle. Or has permanent negativity permeated the basketball forum as well?

I guess no one should post anything relative to recruits because none of them have had a chance to prove their mettle. By the way Burwell not only sit behind the LSU signee but also a 6'1 freshman. Hawkins did not start until her senior year but did play on a powerhouse High School team with two all state players and had an offer from Weber State.

I am sure SS sees these girls as being good additions to her team, but her quotes would lead you to believe that she had pulled off the recruiting coups of the year. If JJ had recruited a high school player that averaged 8 points a game or a juco that averaged 5 and did not start, I am sure there would be some concern. As someone who actually goes to the games, I had hoped that SS would pull off some much more high profile recruits than she has in the late period. I see these players more as role players than real difference makers. Hopefully, I am wrong. I am concerned based on these recruits that NT's recruiting is not going too well. Maybe SS's multiple suspensions of players, a point rival coaches probably don't mind pointing out, is not selling well.

As far as negativity, there is always the ignore bottom or just don't read the post. Another approach might be instead of complainting about the negativity, actually make a valid counterpoint like your reference to Burwell's recruitment out of high school. A good point but I had rather have evidence that she was highly recruited out of juco.

I certainly didn't want to come off as negative...I'm very excited about what SS is doing with our program and I trust her judgement regrarding players. I think Burwel will be a solid contributor for the next two seasons.

But SS was selling us the next Rebecca Lobo...and I don't think thats what we're getting...I'm kinda regarding Burwel as the Cameron Spencer of the women's team. I would also add that a lot of those big program offers have a lot to do with 6'4"...which I whole-heartedly welcome to this squad.
