Ill admit that he got a little rediculous with the diagrams and he could become Captain Obvious, but he is an icon in the brodcasting industry and he will be missed. Best wishes to him.

I will miss him. We need more like him...good luck John Madden, you will be missed and thanks for the memories.

No more Brett Favre...what would be left for Madden to talk about.

He whipped me...and when he was with Summerall I thought I was visiting the grandparents in an old-folk home with all the started stories and statements that went no where...but he was a great ambassador for the the game and the NFL will miss him.

Great in the 90s.

Senile in the 00s.

But, I'll stick with the 90's memories. Is he already in the Hall of Fame? If not, he is a first ballot shoe in, but more for broadcasting than coaching.

I remember Madden as the coach of the Raiders when I was young. He used to do a lot of local TV commercials and was really funny in them. That's the Madden I miss. I also remember the first game that they gave him the chalkboard thing. I don't remember what year it was, but I remember it as a dark, dark day in football commentary. He never did set that damn pen down! Nonetheless, it's sad to me that yet another icon of my youth is moving on. Reminds me that I'm not 12 anymore.

I remember one year when the Cowboys were at the Vikinigs late in the season. The game was so out of hand, they showed somebody ice fishing on a frozen lake. Madden had to start circling wht the guy was using. and how he was using it. Hilarious.

Was the best technical color man on television? Not even close.

Had he slipped in the last few years? No doubt about it.

Doesn't matter... he's John f'n Madden. Period. He IS football. I like Collinsworth a lot, think he's darn good actually, but it's going to be an adjustment period not hearing that burly stammer at least once a week. Glad he did it on his terms, he deserves it.

The REAL question is, was there a "no #2" rule on the Maddencruiser? What kind of bus plumbing system can handle a Madden-sized dump if not? Back to you, Al.
