I thought some of the signs yesterday were great. But the best one in among the estimated 15,000 or so folks who showed up in Atlanta was just a simple big sign that read "CNN SUCKS".

Another good thing to note about yesterday's protests. Ever seen the photos of the heaps of trash and waste left on the capital lawn after the inauguration, an estimated 100 tons of it. Apparantly this was kept in mind for yesterday because in San Antonio and other places the "Tax-Tea Extremists" were reminding everyone before, during and after the events for folks to clean up. I can't say for sure in other places but I got a call from San Antonio from a friend who was there who said everyone was reminding each other about it when the event ended and did a good job keeping the lawn of the Alamo and surrounding area picked up. I hope this was true in all places.

This is what needs to happen. Everyone should vote against the incumbent in 2010. If you are represented by a Republican, vote Democrat. if you are represented by a Democrat, vote Republican. Turnover the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate. I guarantee this will scare the pants off of those who were left in power in the Senate, especially the Senators up for re-election in 2012.

It's time for the People to take back the power.

Yup! I was shocked at the number of Democrats and Libertarians who showed up yesterday in support of the event. One man mentioned he was a democrat and voted for Obama and did so because he wanted his government to step in and change things from how they were, but he didn't want this much change and now regrets his decision because of the power grab that is being attempted. Back in November, because of the amount of people who were just now getting involved in their government and getting out to vote for Obama, were praised and applauded by the Obama networks for getting out and having their voices heard. Yet yesterday, because it wasn't for Obama, the whole thing was mocked and made fun of by MSNBC and their ilk.

Amazing.

I totally agree, except I would go one further. Vote them ALL out. If there is a 3rd party running, vote for that candidate. They will not ALL win, but it would definitely shake the system up.

Only 1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election at any time. And I don't think a 3rd party is the answer. Political parties need to stay on the sideline for once, and the people need to unite to throw them all out of office. If the American people flex their muscle, party affiliation will not matter.

It was an amazing day for conservatives...Republicans, democrats, Libertarians and Independents alike. Attendance was excellent at most venues with the Denton estimate by the Denton Police at 1300! Now, that being said...I was a bit surprised and disappointed in the Denton event planning...audio was poor as many people could not hear the speakers, nor could a good many of the attendees see the speakers. But, all in all, a very good event with lots of people there to hear what was said by the speakers. It was fun to be a part of the event, as "conservatives" very rarely seem to rally as such...unlike the liberal crowd who seem to rally and protest at the drop of a hat. But, I digress...

Now, going back to MeanGreenDork's comments about the "tin foil hat" and "militia" crowd....Well, I have to admit...at the Denton event there were a couple of folks I heard tallking that I would definitely put in the "tin foil hat" catagory...no sign of any "militia talk", but, OK, fact is fact...I saw and heard it myself...yes, a couple of "tin foil hat" folks. Certainly not the majority and a VERY small minority by my visual and audio experience, but, got to admit the reality of the Denton event. Not so in Southlake by my observation, but Denton....

Also, if I find out that Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell is going to lead a prayer before any future event that I might be planning to attend, I will either arrive late after the prayer or not attend at all! That was the worse excuse for an opening prayer that I have ever heard...EVER! It was not only bad, it was long...where I go to church it would have qualified as a sermon it was so long. I cannot believe folks who know her would ask her to lead an opening prayer! OUCH! Don't get me wrong here, I have absolutely no problem with an opening prayer...just to Commissioner Mitchell delivering it.

I did have the pleasure of seeing serval young UNT'ers in attendance wearing UNT shirts, and got to see our great Mean Green Nation member SUMG! Those two things along made the vent worth attending!

Anyway, it was fun and great to see happening in Denton and around the country. Now, we need to see where this leads. It is one thing to "rally the troops", but if follow-through is not there, well, then it was just a good party! I hope the momentum continues into positive action on the part of conservatives no matter which party (or any) that they belong to these days!

I think we basically agree. Throw them ALL out of office.

We know that liberals never follow through on their promise to leave the country when they don't get their way:

No asshat, the only ones leaving the country would be you morons that decided to stay behind.

Its funny that Fox News can rail on liberals when they threaten to move to Canada, but when a governor all but advocates seceding from the union when a Democrat is in charge? Oh you bet your ass they're all over that.

When yours and surrounding fire departments lose all that federal money they depend on, you'll have a hard time scraping my bus fare together.

That's not how it works, but whatever. The volunteers might feel the pinch a bit, but as in the past, they too will overcome it. If they have to do without certain special equipment for a while till they raise the money themselves, if we have to stop sending an individual or two to special training events from time to time, so be it. It would all be worth stopping socialism in it's tracks.

I do not support secession, I think it was a stupid thing for Governor GoodHair to say. I love being an American more than I love being a Texan. Gov. Perry is a tool, and you can tone down the name-calling.

Yeah, because if Texas ever seceded, I'm sure they would just let fire departments go into the crapper.

Coffee, according to 2007 figures, Texas sent $225 billion in federal taxes to Washington (#3 in the nation), yet received back approximately $23 billion in block grants and aid (#42 in the nation). Texas would come out ahead and with that extra money, over $200 billion, I'm sure we can get a few new fire trucks.

I do find it a tad interesting that each and every time Coffee gets in one of these "spats" with folks on GMG.Com that he always adds the foul language at some point. Is that what happens when your argument doesn't hold up and you can't think of anything else to say? Just wondering? Its a research question...not trying to get into this spat with Coffee as who needs more name-calling and foul language? Not me!

Let's just all agree to say GO MEAN GREEN!

Still amazed that my Tax Day Tea Party topic has gotten this many "hits"...fun, isn't it? And, oh, yes, I am waiting for the day when someone who "promises" to leave the country if "so and so" gets elected or if "such and such" a thing happens, actually does it! I am talking about a person here.

BTW...is the Gov really sure Texas retained the right to secede? I know Texas retained the right to break into five different states, but I am not too sure about the secede thing. It has been a "Texas lore and legend" for as long as I can remember, but I did some research on it while taking Texas History at UNT as an undergrad and could not really get a "full understanding" of the position. Anyone have a bit more knowledge about it all?

I do not have a single problem with what he said. He did not express support for succession, but served a reminder to the folks in Washington that their power is not absolute. If you say "Our state will never secede regardless of what Washington does," you pretty well grant absolute power to Washington. I don't want to secede; I don't believe Gov. Perry wants to secede; but never say never.

I almost never reply to these sorts of threads anymore because they are such beatdowns.

However....

Secession would be lunacy. You either believe in the USA or you don't. You don't just take your ball and go home. It's just as bad, if not worse, then folks who say "I'll leave the country if so and so is elected" - seriously. Not to mention I don't want to get a freaking passport to visit my extended family. :P
