Ut Offense For Spring Game

Found this in the DMN...damn UT and their no contact with the QB's and boring game plan

3. Heisman runner-up McCoy was 11-of-24 for 95 yards, although coach Mack Brown dismissed any concern. "None whatsoever," Brown said. In reality, McCoy had to deal with winds gusting to 30 mph, a vanilla offensive game plan (by design) and about four drops by young receivers.

My apologies...I posted this same quote on the thread "Not Impressed" this moring along with some comments from a friend who watched the UT spring game. Did not see you had already posted...

I think they ought to send Colt to Abilene Christian to throw passes to his brother. He has no business playing at the DIV 1 level after his showing in the spring game. Take his name off the Heisman list! And then, UT needs to find a real coach, one who will bring the program up to standards with everybody in the nation. The spring game proves the program is in a spiral. Wake up UT!

I love the fact that many realize what a Spring Game is for and how it is run as opposed to the other's that just don't get it.

I thought the spring game itself was well run...bounce house, stadium presentation, concessions, brochures etc. The football that was played did little to bring out the casual fan who looks at 3 wins in the last two years. Thems the facts unfortunately.

it is to sell a product. this is one poor marketing attempt.

No, the purpose of the Spring Game is not to market the program. The game is nothing more than a glorified practice.

Now could they sell merchandise, concessions, season tickets, etc...? Sure, but I wasn't there so I can't comment on that.

We're you there? Did you attend the stadium tailgate event? Did you pick up one of the brochures regarding the new stadium? I would say that was done quite well indeed. The game itself is always "iffy" because it is the spring game and it "is what it is"...a spring game. Check out what others are saying about other university's spring games.

Now, that being said...I do think that UNT could do a much better job of trying to turn the spring game into an event. As a "marketing opportunity" it could be developed into a real "event" centered around the spring game. Anyway, I know that very few schools seem to do that with their spring games, but seems like a real possible "tradition in the making" if developed in an event-type atmosphere. I'm thinking tailgating, player intros, coach speak, music (perhaps a concert to help keep and involve students, ticket sales, UNT gear sales, food, beer, Scrappy, cheerleaders, band...you get the idea. Could work...maybe.

It was a great day anyway, but, yes, could be built into a bigger deal. Problem is, it seems every time the school tries something like that just want to complain that it could have been better instead of enjoying the effort and helping it get better over the years and grow into something of a possible "can't miss UNT fan event". Oh, well....

It can be used for marketing, and it is at most schools. But, we've got nothing to sell except the collegiate athletic equivalent of a bag full of magic beans - the hope of a new stadium someday...if we can get the money. Besides, it's not about the fans here; it's about keeping the newfound "tight end" position a secret from the rest of the college world. Boy, howdy.

It's also laughable to to think Texas, Nebraksa, OU, Alabama, etc. aren't selling stuff and marketing to their fans when tens of thousands show up for their spring games. More likely than not, they're hawking every stitch of clothing and memorabilia they can find. I'd also bet their ticket offices are prominently open for business the day of their spring games.

Right on, we cannot get our hands on any of the "really" cool stuff. Try to purchase a shirt that one of our coaches wears, or a hat, or even the shirt RV had on. You can't! The good stuff is only for athletic department personnel.

Sad but so true. We can't find any good gear. I asked Mandy about the good gear and her response was that was one of the benefits of working in the AD dept.

We are missing out on the good looking gear and the Athletic Dept. is missing out on sales. Pretty typical but totally unacceptable.

According to Under Armor AND the the Athletic department last year, they both claimed by the first of this year that you could buy the shirt Dodge wore last season from both of their websites. I haven't check though.

So those who work for the AD department gets to wear the "good gear" while those who want to pay and support the University can't because they don't work for the University? Can you buy a new "jersey" yet? Two years after they changed, you would think you could, however, the AD can't seem to get the players out of those all black warm ups so....
