DANA POINT, Calif. (AP) — NFL owners have passed four player safety rules for next season. One of them is the elimination of blindside helmet-to-helmet blocks.

The changes came Tuesday at the NFL meetings in California.

The new rules state that the initial force of a blindside block can't be delivered by a helmet, forearm or shoulder to an opponent's head or neck. An illegal blindside block will bring a 15-yard penalty.

Initial contact to the head of a defenseless receiver also will draw a 15-yard penalty.

On kickoffs, no blocking wedge of more than two players will be allowed. Also, the kicking team can't have more than five players bunched together pursuing an onside kick.

Pretty soon the NFL will be playing with bows in their hair along with shorts and T-shirts! Let's not touch that QB and forget about any "rough stuff"...don't touch me near the head as you might just mess up my hair!!!! BooHoo!!

I think it's way start toward a co-ed league. Why not...it will be touch football in the NFL soon!<_<

I actually agree with the rules changes. Hitting a defenseless receiver with a blow to the head should not be allowed. It's not saying don't hit when he has the ball or while catching it. And I'm fine with getting rid of the wedge, I forget his name but the Bills player who was paralyzed was breaking up a wedge. The blocking rule is fine to, you can still block them just don't aim for the head...Heinz Ward. One rule I hope doesn't pass is the Brady rule, not allowing defensive players to tackly the QB around the legs while on the ground. That will piss me off

I agree with the concept but not the reality, the calls are based on perception and vision of the refs. There will be tons of errors in the calls and how these rules are translated to the field. Then there is unintentional hits where situations like the receiver turns at last moment how he is hit will change. I don't ever want my defense to be tentative to hit someone.

How is this statement going to be interpreted? Does a wrist count? A defenders hand slides off and his forearm appears to hit first?
