Raymond Sims

Teammate of Shannon Shorter...the kid can and likes to pass, handing out 6apg last season...more than his 5.3ppg.

I hope that an offer was at least extended to Nafis Ricks ahead of Sims...but this is the pass first guy I've been asking for...just wish he were a bit bigger than 5'9"

Yeah, I would rather have a quality freshman PG come in next year to back up Johnson and hopefully turn into a three year starter. On the other hand, maybe this kid would be a nice addition. If he signs, would that leave us with one ship left for next season or does that depend on Mangrum's situation?

Would much rather have the kid from Weatherford JC. We need size to match up defensively. But, a short point guard is better than no point guard at all.

I agree 100%. Many of our defensive problems this year came from the size mismatch between our guards and your typical 6-3, 6-4 guard that you see in today's game. Maybe if we have 1 "smurf" on the floor at a time, but when we have 2 on, the savvy teams take advantage of us.

Slaughter for WKU hurt us in the SBC Conference Tournament with a couple of timely three's over our shorter defenders. It's not that they were really out of place, he was just able to get around a screen and shoot over our guards. I'd like to see us find another guard that's around 6-3.

I thought I remembered a story on Sims where he handed out 17 assists in a game...I can't remember the last time we had anybody in double figures on that line of the stat sheet.

Still...I am in agreement with most on here...if we go the JUCO route for a guard I'd prefer he be bigger. Despite Sims being that pass first guy, I can't see JJ starting him over Dom (whereas I could see Brister or Ricks). If you bring in a guy who you're looking at as just a back-up point guard, I agree with foutsrouts and I'd much prefer it be a freshman, like Javarez Willis.

I'm not surprised to see UNT recruiting Sims...but it does kinda stink of either a lazy move (considering Shorter) or a fall back and JJ thinks his chances of landing Nafis Ricks, Marcus Brister or Javarez Willis are slim.

Yes, no doubt that it does tend to make opposing guards better shooters when they know there's not much of a chance that they'll get their shots blocked. One guy on the court well under six feet is fine, but two is a bit too much. We know that a healthy Josh is going to get his 30 minutes, so we could find ourselves in an even smurfier situation next season if we have three in the rotation.
