Here's a question for the moderators...

The Non-UNT Sports forum is the only appropriate place for talk about the Rangers, Stars, Mavericks, and anything else that isn't North Texas related. But it's totally overrun by political talk.

If this is going to be a message board with so much political discussion, and I'm not saying that it shouldn't be... Can we please add a separate forum for it? Because the Iraq war, Barack Obama, George Bush, and all the rest of the topics of most common discussion during our involuntary vacation are not Non-UNT Sports. If this is going to go so far beyond sports, then we should have a general discussion forum that's clearly just for general discussion.

I'd also suggest/request that it be handled like the Recruiting forum, where people request to opt-in to read it. That keeps it off the screen for those who would rather ignore the discussions entirely. You could probably avoid a lot of problems that way.

I know that a politics/general forum has been requested and rejected before, but that was back when political comments and discussion were strictly off limits. Now that the rules are different, perhaps it's time to change the forum structure to reflect those new rules.

Set up a new General Discussion forum, pin a message on top of the non-UNT Sports (and any or all others) forum explaining to people that they need to PM a moderator to get access to the General Discussion forum, and then nobody has to see it if they don't want to.

Just a thought.

You already have to be a registered member to see the Non-UNTsports board. If someone doesn't want to see political discussion they can opt not to click on the thread and instead click on the very sizzlin Your 1st Texas Rangers Thread that's up to 12 pages now.

Rick

That's true, but I think that you, like I and many other posters, use the "View New Posts" option to navigate the board.

I've been making it a point NOT to read any of the political stuff, and it's tough to do without overlooking the actual sports threads. And I've only been back less than 24 hours.

Also, if we split general discussion from Non-UNT sports, we wouldn't have to hide that forum from the public anymore.

This is America.

Taking their right to post whatever they want on a private board to another more private board just feels...socialist.

Oh, I see. Maybe your right.

Welcome back.

I dont necessarily think that we should ban politics, just end the name calling, and keep it civil, which Im not sure some can.

I wish there was a "I like steak" option on the poll though.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't be able to talk politics, either.

But when I replied to Rick's post, there were 17 active threads from the day. And 10 of them not only had nothing to do with North Texas, they had nothing to do with sports of any type. Given how much political threads seem to have taken over the discussion lately, it doesn't seem unreasonable to set up a specific place for them.

Well it is the middle of everything off season! The doldrums of summer, for sports.

If by enforcing rules, you mean no personal attacks....then you need to quit calling every liberal a socialist.

Tap the brakes. You have NO right to address the name calling and personal attacks issue.

Synonyms don't fall under the name calling rules.

Never said I didn't attack anyone while giving my opinion, but I don't want it to be ignored that FireFightingJesus does the same crap. Just because he is a conservative superhero with some of you, doesn't make him immune.

I like this idea...the non-sports forum has become like a car wreck for me. Its ugly, but I can't not look. I'd choose not to view the General Discussion forum so I could keep my blood pressure down.
