That god it was just a sweat-towel and not a "soiled sock"

=============================================

Just when we thought we'd seen it all from PETA -- the animal rights organization known for high-profile celebrity ads -- President Ingrid Newkirk has come up with this: George Clooney-flavored tofu.

In a letter sent to the actor, Newkirk said that PETA has been offered his gym towel (obtained right here in D.C.!) and wants to use his sweat to create Clooney tofu that will "spare animals from being killed for the table." She went on to explain that the science is pretty simple, like "making artificial chicken flavor for instant gravy."

Newkirk, a big fan of Clooney, told us yesterday that the towel was offered by a PETA supporter with the idea of auctioning it off, but she immediately thought of using his perspiration for bean curd: "I thought, 'What would make tofu more attractive to people?' ... I can see people having parties to try CloFu."

Clooney's not biting. "As a mammal, I'm offended," he told us yesterday through his rep.

here in the US there are starving children, women being sold for sex slaves, children killing parents, schools going down the crapper etc. but people want to ensure animals aren't killed for human consumption. Incredible set of priorities.

PETA folks are simply part of the lunitic fringe...much like many of the Green Peace folks and the Neo-Nazi crowd. Many have "no clue" and are socially inept folks simply looking for a community they can belong to to have some sort of identity. They have no qualms about destroying other people's property or trampling on other people's civil rights in the name of their "cause", but man, don't you be "guilty" of being opposed to any of their crackpot ideas! Goopd grief. There has always been and always will be this sort of group around...heck, the SDS has seen a re-birth on the UNT campus of late. Go figure!

PETA and Greenpeace used to be something worth talking about until the real hardcore, concrete folks went too far with their causes. Like with any particular cause, political effort or party, you can't be too far one way or the other, spouting off rants, and looking like general eff-wits as you do so and expect the rest of the world to take you seriously.
