Actually...a very interesting read...thank you, Rick.

Like you with the NY Times I'm sure, I take a slight skeptics approach to the WSJ...but if in fact these councils are focusing their energy and attention to the re-allocation of philanthropic donations then their aim is very mis-guided...their goal shouldn't be "how can we split this $15 billion dollar pie differently" but rather "how can we bake a bigger pie."

The quote you pulled certainly over-simplifies things and is meant to be inflamatroy...but the end goal of these councils is reasonible...increase philanthropic giving...but their means a terribly skewed.

The title should have been socialist philanthropy. Agreed, why should philanthropists give to an organization only to have a specific amounts siphoned to other organizations that does not benefit their beliefs? As egregious and socialistic as this, soon to be enactment materializes from mr hope and change, donations will errode and, as the article eluded to, white cultural arts will suffer at the expense of greater funding for blacks and hispanics arts.

Granted, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was to stop discrimination through government mandated regulations and begin a new social enginering phase that was to stop the "wedge" of inequality between the races. Enactments such as this, IMHO, only illuminates that certin political groups want to keep the races divided politically and socially, not only for votes but for the class warfare that accompanies the ushering in of socialism. Class warfare is the mantra of socialism. How far have we, as a nation, degressed from the Dr. Martin Luther King's speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial? King preached unity....Obama preaches class warfare.

Very reasonable and well thought out response. I basically agree with you.

...though, frankly, I'd like to see those foundations, individuals and companies just give to what they want to give with and quit worrying about public opinion. The Government ABSOLUTELY should not be in the business of mandating how the charity any individual, business or non-profit sees fit to give is allocated. That's the giver's business, alone.

Agreed 100%. Creepy.

My point to the councils was not that they should dictate how giving foundations and individuals should donate, but rather to use their resources to drum up new donations to the areas they are currently championing.

So it appears we agree 100%. I'm going to go drive my gas guzzling in-no-way emissions legal hot-rod to lunch now, in an effort to feel more normal about this day...

I used to have one of those hot rods or two, SS Camaro and a rebuilt Barracuda, not a day goes by that I don't miss exercising my right to drive those gas guzzling b**ch slaps to green peace. They were so much fun....

I don't have a mullet, but I probably should. I'm a Camaro/Firebird guy.

I've got a 2000 Z28 w/ 525HP Heads/Cam 347 LS6 and a 1991 RS w/ 380HP Stock Heads/Mild Cam Carb'ed 383 under the hood. In addition, we have a '79 Trans Am (complete with the big-ass screaming chicken decal) in my dad's garage with a worked over 6.6L Olds 408.

Going to get a new RS/SS once they have been out for a few months and we're always looking for a good, but affordable, 1st gen to round out the collection.

Rumpity, Rumpity...

Sorry for the Hijack, Rick.

I as well apologize for the hijack but

I had... :( :( a 2000 SS with a Upgraded LG Motorsports intake manifold, small cam, ceramic hooker headers, and custom true dual exhaust. put about 430 on the ground and I could tick a 12.98 1/4 mi all day long down at Ennis

The Cuda was a 66 plymouth numbers matching that i spent 4 years or so restoring. All numbers matching, 273 v8 and a little bitty 2 bbl carb. I had the Formula S high rise intake and a 650 quadra-jet to put on it but I sold it before I could make up my mind about wether or not I was going to install it and change it from original. That thing was slow as dirt but it got great gas mileage, 32 on the highway, had enough torque to rip up concrete but no horsepower to speak of. It was loud and beautiful...

Yes. These aren't tax dollars or something. These are voluntary, charitable donations and need to be treated as such.

But yes, agreement across the board on this weird. I'm gonna go eat a 1/2lb burger and then a block of tofu to make my day even out.

Where there's jacking, there's always Carl Monday!

Just further proof that just throwing taxpayer money at poverty doesn't work. Now, they want private money as well.

Surprisingly, it never occurs to any of them to just get a job and work their way up and out of poverty the way many of us and our parents have done. It's shockingly easy to do, although it does take some sacrifice. You've got to cut back on things like beer, marijuana, and satellite television.

I can't remember the name of the song, but I heard it as a child, and the words were: "Life ain't easy, but it ain't that bad." These people should really use the time they spend complaining and use it to actually direct people to jobs.
