A really bad idea. This idea is often floated by the 'power conferences' to keep the 'little boy' down. Back in the early 90's there was talk of going to two divisions with the size of each team's venue as the cut off point. Obviously, NT would make the cut to the higher conference due to the size of the SuperPit. the NCAA tournament quickly shows that there is a lot of good basketball being played by teams from the 'power conferences.' Of course, television has done damage to widening the gap between the big boys and little boys. Even if there was a split, I think the Sun Belt would make the cut to stay with the bigger conferences. It seems that in the NCAA athletic world you are not rewarded for success, but held down by the name of your university.

If we ever have another Villanova or UNLV, I would bet that the big 6 conferences would lobby for some kind of exclusion.
Isn't that what Memphis was last year? Granted they didn't win it all, but they made the Final.

Quick correction. I should have said that the NCAA tournament shows that there is a lot of good basketball being played by teams outside of the 'power conferences.' My mistake in quick typing.

--Hell no.

Basketball and football are two different worlds.... A lot more games and more out of conference games plus teams are rather small in number of players. If any school can find two or three very good players ... they can a real force against anyone. (unlike football).
