please tell that to all the illegal immigrants flooding our country.

Especially the basketball playing ones!

SUCKS! So bad in so very many ways.

Why is a multicultural marketing stunt bad?

knowing more than one language is usually a great asset.

Especially if you want to order a Big Mac in Texas.

Why are most Americans not multi-lingual? Because we don't need to be. In Europe, everyone learns their native language and English. English is the international language of business, diplomacy, aviation, science, maritime communications.

However, if I were to get a job in Paris, I would learn French. I would never expect the French to bow to my cultural demands.

Lord, wtf. I think it's pretty understood that you don't need "Los" in front of everything and people still would get it. It's like when Pepsi came out with Pepsi Si...I spent all time asking if it was going to be any different, and it wasn't. I thought it was kind of a waste of money on a product everyone is already familiar with.

I mean, I have no problem with being multilingual in a country you need it in. If I wanna work/live in Japan, I'm gonna learn the language. If I'm going to Spain, I'm going to learn the language. You know, "when in Rome" and such. But I don't jive well with how immigrants from Mexico are driving this happening here. Learn the language. Please.

I'd feel weird about traveling to another country where English isn't common unless I was nearly fluent...how much more if I lived there?

Dude, my wife's from Mexico and she laughs at this kind of garbage. We have children's books that are supposedly written in Spanish. The grammar errors are glaring.

Your problem is two-fold: first, illegal immigration; second, your opinion of marketing.

As long as wages are unreasonable in the eyes of business owners, they will default down to the illegals. The illegals, who rarely have more than our equivalent of a sixth grade education, are going to work because they'll make more doing seemingly menial tasks here than they could ever dream of in Mexico. For the best evidence of this, look at the prices of new homes in states that are Union labor-infested, then compare them to the prices here.

As far as marketing, the leagues don't care, they just want to make money. The NFL made Vince Young its rookie of the year in 2006 for throwing 12 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions. You think they were really all that concerned about his stats? His jersey sold. And, that, my friends, is pro sports. Wherever a buck can be made, they're going to make it.

So what if there are Mavs/Rockets/Knicks fans who live in Mexico?

I'm not saying there's not, but if they need "Mavericks and Rockets" translated to Spanish I'd tell you they're complete idiots.

Would anyone crap their pants if we start selling Mean Verde jerseys and it gave us the money we needed to upgrade some stuff? Would the program be run by the blood money of filthy Mexican drug money that forced you to root for a nice American college like UTA or Miami?

Because this happens to be the USA, the NBA is a US based league and it appears to me to be pandering. I don't think the NBA is doing itself any favors with this. But, since I attend about ZERO NBA ganmes each year, buy ZERO tickets to NBA games and watch only about a dozen games on TV each year (if the Mavs make the playoffs at all), I ask this question....is the Spanish only speaking population a big base of supporters for NBA teams in general? Also, Quoner, I have no problems with mulitcultural marketing, as you call it, but this is not a few spanish langure brochures, some ads on spanish language televison and radio or even newspaper ads aimed to spanish speaking audiances...THIS STUFF IS ON THE FRONT OF THE JERSEY! In case you havene't noticed, these teams are based in US cities, not places such as Madrid, Mexico City, Lima or Bogata.

If they are trying to teach "Spanish as a second language" the front of jerseys is not the place. However, this is "free enterprise" working, so OK, go for it...but don't let the crowd in Washington know or they will try to nationalize the league!

I've got my Houston 火箭 jersey on right now.

The NBA is an AMUUUUUUUUURRRRRCAN league! And we need to pander to the red blooded 'Muuuuurrrrcans, not some damn dirty furrinurs!

I don't like basketball and I'd never pay to go to an NBA game. But I DEMAND TO BE PANDERED TO!!!

My only problem with this whole Spanish Jersey thing is that we don't put THE Mavericks or THE Suns on any jerseys. It's just sloppy and crappy.

But the NBA pushing an international presence isn't exactly a new concept. And we're not talking about painting a quincenera dress on the Mona Lisa here, people... It's just a basketball jersey.

The Mona Lisa does not play in the NBA! It's in a French Museum located in paris. I have purchased a ticket for that! Not a word of spanish in the whole place that I recall except a few spanish artist names hanging around on some artsy kind of stuff. Couldn't wait to get out of the place and have a cold beer! And, a few quincenera dresses on the Mavericks might at least dress them like they play!

Do you even know what you're debating anymore? Or where you are?
