2nd Athletic Fee Bill Introduced

UNTflyer

Recommended Posts

HB 2024 was introduced to the House on 2/27/09.

The text of the bill is exactly the same as SB 473.

Did the Texas State U. and Lamar student athletic fee requests go through this same long process? It just seemed like theirs passed very fast after students voted in the fee.

Texas State already had a fee. Lamar, being a part of the Texas State system, did not need legislative approval.

The sponsor is Rep. Myra Crownover, R-Lake Dallas, who has a bachelor's from a certain Park Cities university and a master's from a certain Agricultural & Mechanical university.

It's common for identical bills to be filed in both chambers. It improves the odds. In addition, Rep. Crownover sits on the Appropriations Committee and the Calendars Committee. Calendars is extremely important, since it controls which bills actually reach the floor for a vote.

...and if I'm not mistakened Ms Crownover spent some time in the President's suite at one of our home games. Good job Dr. B!!

Well that should do it then!

Because if she has any sense of humanity she will make sure that the bill will move along in a timely manner. So that us poor North Texas fans don't have to attend football games in such a crappy venue any longer than necessary.

UNT already had a fee...student services fee. UNT is part of the UNT system....why do we need legislative approval?

Texas State already had legislative approval for an athletic fee. They voted to raise it. Lamar, being part of Texas State, only needed BOR approval.

We do not have an athletic fee, so we need approval to have one.
