REPORT: WATERS WANTS OUT OF KANSAS CITY

The honeymoon could be over quickly in Kansas City.

Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters has asked the team to trade him or cut him.

Waters’ nose is out of joint because of a perception that new coach Todd Haley and new G.M. Scott Pioli are arrogant. The nine-year veteran reportedly was “offended” and “shocked” by communications with Haley, and by Pioli’s refusal to meet with Waters.

Waters reportedly heard from Cardinals players at the Pro Bowl that Haley is “aloof, condescending and ignored by veterans,” and Waters reportedly concluded based on his communications with Haley that the information he picked up in Honolulu is accurate.

Waters is signed through 2011. He’s due to receive a base salary of $3.6 million in 2009.

The reality here is that Waters can huff and puff all he wants, but his choices are to play for the Chiefs or play for no one — and pay back bonus money that was, in essence, advance compensation for future services.

Not a bad salary to play a game. Next time my boss starts acting arrogant, I'll tell him to shove my 3.6 million base also.
