Here we go agin with someone knocking a local establishment who actually supports the Mean Green. Man, when will folks ever learn? I personally enjoy going to El Guapo's from time to time and have not found a problem to be concerned about during any visit. I find the food good and the beer cold and the wait staff have always been great...many being UNT students it seems.

It is simply amazing to me how some folks who call themselves MEAN GREEN fans continue to knock the few businesses in town that try to be good AND ACTIVE supporters of the Mean Green.

If you don't like a place, fine, your right...your dollars, but comments such as the above do no good AT ALL.

Usually not my style but I've had a horrid experience with this particular establishment. Check the City of Denton health ratings. They've actually improved recently but are still just about the worst in the city.

I do salute them for supporting the Mean Green.

Brother, you ain't lyin'!!

Denton County Jail Kitchen 86

El Guapos 80

Scary!

Apparently, one should avoid Sukkho Thai next to campus, Cracker Barrel, Fuzzy's Tacos, Olive Branch, Golden China, the Holiday Inn Kitchen, Whataburger, Sonic, Mi Casita, and El Chico.

A note on Fuzzy's. If the health rating doesn't tell you anything, their food just is not that great. You want tacos? Eat at a taqueria. I recommend La Mexicana on Locust.

PSSSH. This is just the city of Denton's latest effort to keep athletics and the school down. So many of those establishments are big program supporters and don't deserve those pesky "health standards."

Now...I haven't been to the Fuzzy's in Denton...but the Fuzzy's by TCU is really solid...its no La Superior in Brooklyn...hands down the greatest tacos ever served in an actual building...but Fuzzy knows tacos.

I was pretty damn pumped when I realized Denton was getting a Fuzzy's..... but ours is a far cry from the others I've experienced. Just bland city. I highly recommend the Rooster’s Roadhouse right next door though.

As far as Guapo's goes, they were in the low 70's when I first got to town. For anyone that has cable in Denton, they broadcast the most recent rating for every local establishment on the DTV channel. Its very entertaining.

Amazing comments...simply amazing.

Usually we kid and tease each other in jest, but I really am wondering why you are so passionate about overlooking health code violations?

Love eating at El Guapo's with excellent food and a great owner. If you had or have a problem always, always, always ask for Mike and he will make it right.

I still think its ridiculous that my $250 MGC donation will only get me into the hospitality room for Women's games and not Men's games, yet I can get on the hospitality deck at football games..? Sigh..

And here's the real bitch of the bunch... $5 gets you all you can eat and drink.

Really? I didn't know it was unlimited once you paid another $5, I assume that excludes alcohol right?

Sadly I've never even been to either of the hospitality areas since joining the MGC.

You would be incorrect in that assumption, sir!

But... there's always a "but"... the room open one hour before the game and then closes at tip-off. Everybody out. I usually get 2 beers in, 3 if I arrive early.

Well hell, I'm going to start going to Women's basketball games then :)

It's not the same deal for the football games though right? I was always told beers were 3-5 bucks each on the hospitality deck...

You are correct - and to sweeten the pot, basketball has free liquor and the sexy temptation of a Villareal family member sometimes mixin' you your drank.

I think the $500 charge keeps the room crowd manageable and more than covers itself during the season with this bottomless perk.
