--Great Salary and is hanging in there. I think playing 5 years also means a good retirement check..... forever. Some have found out that an overpriced contract means high expectation and an early exit. Patrick is having a solid career. ESPN leveled a lot of criticism at the combine stating it doesn't really measure football ability but just speed and other physical attributes..... some of which don't translate well to playing skills or even those same skills in uniform. The ability to do many things is keeping him in the NFL.. He reflects very well on North Texas.

Thanks Patrick, and we wish you well. .

Not so much Awasom...

I know this was said in fun, but let us all just remember not to throw a guy overboard who gaves us 4 great years while defending a guy (Rucker) who has given us nothing to this point. And remember, Awasom committed a misdemeanor, which I bet many of us have committed at one time or another in our life, while Rucker committed a felony, which I bet less than 1% of those on this board have committed. Neither is right, but one is much more wrong.

Could it be that we will give Rucker the pass because we feel he can help the team in the future? At the same time throwing Awasom overboard because we have already gotten everything out of him that we can?

No, I'm sure it's just because Rucker is young that we give him the pass.

Moment of deep thought over...continue

Even though I posted the "Club level" comment, I do agree with your post and actually thought about that as I posted it. Awasome has basically disappeared for doing much less than many that are playing on Sundays today, but being at the bottom of the roster made it convenient to cut him loose. I hope he's doing well.

The non-serious side of me did chuckle when I read the club level comment.

Awasom was a DE during the part of the 4 year conference championship run. Was doing well with the G-men before getting arrested for DWI. Got cut shortly after arrest.

Well I wasn't trying to throw him under the bus entirely, but the last time anyone heard of him it was because of the DWI and getting sent home from the Super Bowl and getting cut. Not really who you would put forward as your posterboy. Great player for us, but it is irrelevant from a PR standpoint. The others I mentioned are current NFL players or pretty significant UNT/NFL guys. So that is who you want out there.

I wouldn't put him forward as the main spokesman, but I would welcome a positive word or two from him about the stadium in any literature sent to Alums. I think it would be classy for the Athletic Dept to offer him that opportunity, and I bet you he would be happy to see that his University didn't walk away. The smallest gestures sometimes make a major difference. That whole find out who your friends are stuff.

And the previous post was just thinking out loud, not aimed at you.
