Just A Thought

I was looking at the bottom of the Go Mean Green Forum and I saw that there were over 3,100 people registered on this site. My thought was, what if those 3,100 people gave $50.00 a month for one year to athletics. That would be $600 per person - which would be $1.86 million going to athletics. Imagine if we made that commitment for 5, 10, 15 years and the stadium was named after all of the alumni of the university? Don't leave it up to corporations, let us have a say in what happens.

5 Years - $9.3 million

10 Years -$18.6 million

15 Years - $27.9 million

20 years - $37.2 million

I'm willing to give up $50.00 a month for the next 15 years - or $25.00 over the next 30 years. Where do I sign?

Just a thought and some quick math

Good idea, but I have two comments:

#1. We have a great deal more than 3,100 members now. A quick check shows the most recent new member to post was "Sports" and his/her member number is 19,827. There appear to be over 100 members that have joined and are awaiting validation, so we should top the 20,000 mark soon. I've politely asked for these automatic stat counters to be corrected before...to no avail. However, to Green Machine's point, we have many visitors to this site that are affiliated with other programs. Still...out of 20K members, you'd think 3,100 of us would be loyal Mean Green fans and willing to part with $500-1000 per year, to supplement our pathetic athletic budget.

#2. I made a similar proposal to support a football stadium fund (before the economy went in the shitter)....and I was met with a similar reaction to what you seem to be getting.

There will always be those that find fault with any idea. You must simply ignore them as you know they will always be negative. Many people look for ways not to help or to "dis" those that do, and will manufacture any excuse possible to keep from helping with their talent or their dollars. If you don't believe me just ask some of the people who complain about things around campus to step up and volunteer. You will be hard presswed to keep from laughing when you hear all the excuses.

UNT has a poor record when it comes to alumni giving, but there are efforts about to help solve that problem and to get more alumni re-introduced to "their university". Just today in the Wall Street Journal there is a FULL PAGE Ad describing a free UNT conference on immigration. Now, when was the last time you ever saw UNT in the Wall Street Journal in an ad...especially a full page ad. Way cool. I am sure some will find fault with the cost of the ad, the size of the ad or even the point of the ad. From what I see here on gmg.com that is certainly to be expected, but it is an indication that UNT is moving forward in improving its brand. A good move for sure and one that will bring added $$$ support to the university. Good for UNT.

Go Mean Green.

There will be a stadium development funding program...count on it...when it comes out, I will donate what I can. I hope others will do the same. Do not be discouraged by those negative folks who will most certainly find something they do not like in how it is handled. Some folks just live to complain...if you gave them a free $100 bill, they would complain that it should have been $200 or that the bill was wrinkled. It just goes with the territory.

I've never heard of this Immigration Conference. Are they a BCS conference? If not, I don't think we should join, although some of the road games, especially the one in Guadalajara, would be a blast!! Now, if Cancun is in this conference, I would definitely make that road game every year. Just imagine the tailgaiting!!

"We have 3,175 registered members" I believe every time someone or something like a bot try to register a number is given to them, but only 3,175 have completed registration and stayed in good standing. Of that you there are a bunch that are other team's fans, lost interest and never posted, started a new user name for various reasons, and other exceptions. If you set the members page to list 60 per page you get 56 pages, around 3360 total members. I expect that the difference is those that are temporarily on the bubble for validation, but if you looked at the names of several under validating probably are not real. There is about 25 pages of users or 1500 user that have never posted.

Observer, "What in the Sam Hill is that thing ?"

Orville Wright, "That my friend is a flying machine that my brother Wilber and I have built out of bicycle parts."

Observer, "Well, what do you intend to do with it ?"

Orville, "We intend to fly it sir. And by doing so, we will change the world."

Observer, ''It'll never work. Man has tried to fly forever. It'll never work."

Orville, "Why ya gotta always be so negative. Why not give some encouragement to those of us trying to get something done ? Maybe you could even help."

Observer, "I'm just saying it'll never work. You're wasting your time."
