"Guns to Be Banned for Elderly

Staff Reports

United Press International

Washington

Deputy Attorney GeneralDesignate David Ogdenis circulating a draft of an executive order in which, among other things, firearms possession would be severely limited to people over 60.

An assistant to Ogden told us, "It appears that in these changing times, it is no longer necessary to allow the elderly to be armed. With all of their physical ailments and increasing senility, to leave them in control of a deadly weapon would be ludicrous."

While the Executive Order may sound too powerful, experts in Constitutional law state that it is not actually un-Constitutional.

"It's a question of wording." states Columbia Law Professor, Dr. JohnBraxton. "The Constitution forbids the Congress, that is, the legislative branch, from passing any laws infringing on gun ownership. The executive branch is not included in this proviso. As long as the Congress doesn't get involved, it's technically a non-issue."

The Justice Departmentwas tossing the idea of a gun ban for seniors during the Carter and Clinton Administration, but public opinion stopped these initiatives. Now, the Obama White House believes differently.

An unnamed aide close to Ogden agreed to talk on the condition of anonymity.

"Clinton and Carter didn't have as much of a mandate as President Obama. They were both Southerners, and the Second Amendment was sacrosanct to their constituents. However, President Obama comes from a new sort of politics, where divisive issues like firearms do not apply to him."

"Quite frankly, it's a shame that no one has had the good conscience to have done this already. It's a simple process, and the majority of the American people will understand it and follow the law."

The enforcement mechanism for this particular executive order has not been published. It is likely that the confiscation of weapons will be similar to Great Britain 's handgun ban, in which citizens willingly gave the weapons to police.

It is expected that the executive order will be given around July 1, when senior-related gun deaths reach their peaks.

The aide to Ogden stated: "For eight years you see the rolling back of regulation, and crime has skyrocketed. In fact, in Massachusetts alone, murders have risen 50% since 2002. Armed robbery has also risen dramatically. With such circumstances, we must act boldly."

who cares what the Obama White House believes, shouldn't this decision be left in the hands of the public?

This idea winever asee the "light of day" in any real sense. man, don't the Obama folks have more to worry about that folks over 60 with firearms? The last few articles I saw in the paper regarding "gun incidents" did not include folks 60 years of age or over! Good Grief! Just another indication of how this administration thinks...or doesn't think at all perhaps.

GOOD GRIEF!

"This report is bogus and, in fact, it was labeled as "satire" on the website where it first appeared."

I only support this idea if we're giving the guns we take away from old people to kids from low income families who otherwise couldn't afford them.

I think guns are good.

Don't care. I don't own a gun nor will I ever. I don't care if someone else owns a gun though. I figure if you shoot me, meh, it's been a good run. If you shoot my wife, meh, it's been a run. If you shoot my daughter, all bets are off, and I will hunt your ass down and go medieval on it with a pair of needle nosed pliers and a bale of barbed wire.

You young folk! Don't you realize that us over 60's were about the last to be drafted in this country? I mean, why aren't you under 60's out demanding that you and all the rest of those not having military service be put into a uniform for a couple of years, including some time at a rifle range. Well, don't worry about us old folk; anyway, admit it, you're snickering to yourself that we couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Myself, I'm just hoping that during my lifetime, the North Texas football program will feature a quarterback who could fire a round and not have it intercepted for a pick six by a freshman cornerback.

----Good points, and we could not even vote for/against those that were drafting us and sending us out to be shot at and shoot people. Because of us and our complaints, 18 years old can now vote... do business.... and be treated like adults.

---Our conservative younger ones do not understand that the government is not always right and that it is our right and responsibility to speak up when we see things happening that just aren't right.

--- In that same era my mother finally got to serve on a jury.... that had been prohibited until then.... even if a woman was on trial. I suppose they thought that woman were too stupid until then. Women usually could not conduct a lot of business without her husband's signature. My mom exploded when the bank would not let her pick up the bank statement even though she was working at the time and making deposits into the acoount.. She opened an account in another bank that would let her. The worse case I can think of is a college educated woman that I know that not permiited to get a library card and check out materials unless her husband co-signed the application... (true) .. Most educated women were pretty much restricted to two jobs... nurses and teachers.... even Sandra Day O'Conner (future Supreme Court Justice) had no job offers after graduating from her law school as #2 in the class.

---Times have changed..... mostly because people who did not like what was happening ( damn liberals ) spoke up.
