The students have provided the opportunity, please, RV, if your reading, don't screw this up.

At this point, the project has moved from RV's dream to one of the BOR's main objectives. They were able to get funding for a $70 million business building. I've also heard from a well-placed SGA source that things are happening in all aspects of this project: planning, funding, etc.

No worries here.

i think a little positive funding news leaked would spur futher positive donations. marketing 101 no news equals no need or wants. who is the marketing genius keeping everythnig so secret, and why?

I just hope they are not like the city and road work crews you always see. You know the 1st few weeks you will see some people working , mainly 1 with about 4 or 5 others just standing around , talking and just watching that 1 person work. Then a month or two goes by and nothing , no workers around no work being done. Then as the deadline approaches boom people show up and start working and what do you know the timeline is being pushed back by saying it will take longer than we expected.

I'll feel MUCH better when serious dirt is being moved (not just the ceremonial groundbreaking). Until then I remain optimistically pessimistic. I wouldnt feel this way if the economy weren't in the crapper.

When would construction need to begin by to get this thing done by 2011?

No thanks. Don't want the fed govt deciding what the capacity of the stadium should be, whether or not we can expand, how much we can pay our coaching staff, etc...

Not only that, but if it's anything like a VA loan, you will have Government inspectors at every phase of construction, and at their convenience. I guarantee it would take 5+ years to build that stadium.

The 19 mil dollar increase is not out of line. Though steel may be down, that does not mean the savings is past to the end user. As for labor being cheaper, that is not the case either. Most of the sub contractors that the construction firm will use are union (steel workers, electricians, plumbers, etc.) You can't go to the local labor pools and hire workers for a project like this. Though the homebuilding side of construction has slowed a great deal in North Texas, the commercial side is still strong as compared to other parts of the country. So what you here on a national news scale does not apply here for this project.
