To say i've been dissappointed in the administrations almost willingness to let another school get that status without much of a fight is a huge understatement.

What gives you this impression specifically? I would think a lot of this battling is going on behind closed doors. Even Hance (Chancellor at Tech) mentions in the article UNT as vying for the tier I status...

And, where do you go for leadership on this? Can anybody say "Lee Jackson"? That should tell you just about everything you need to know. And, Pres. B seems to be more interested in setting up a new dept./division of American Indian Culture since UNT has the largest population of American Indian students than any other university in the state. Not at all saying that's a bad thing, but IS THAT LEADING on the big issues?????

Just wondering.

Don't be mistaken, the real action is on the ground in Austin.

The legislature is going to pass on the idea this session - the state has opened a can of worms in opening this question. But note the two schools whose administrations have been absolutely silent on this debate - it's no coincidence that TTU's chancellor named only two schools - North Texas and Houston,

Whatever this expansion eventually entails, UNT and Houston will be a part of it. Most likely, the state will expand flagship status by including the home campuses of the three other FBS systems (UNT and Houston and their respective legislators have a deal, and it's probably not good to leave Tech out.) UTD is in there as well, but it would be a stretch.

Don't underestimate the effect which the Strauss-coup has on this decision. A Houston and UT centered legislative leadership has been replaced by a DFW centric leadership with no educational loyalties.

It's a good thing this does not happen this session anyway. Most of the other systems have asked for a new Chevy during this fiscally tight time, but UNT is asking for a Hummer and a Maserati to strap to the Hummer's roof with the Law school, massive construction efforts, athletic fees and Pharmacy all being batted around.

In this case, no news will continue to be good news.

I am sure that UNT is letting it be known that UNT should be in the running for Tier I status....perhaps it is "good news" that there is no news. Maybe we should all believe that too regarding the football stadium? Yes, good news all around for UNT.

Yes, we have a full-size cardboard cutout of Josh White in our legislature booth with a stack of handouts on the counter stating reasons "Why NT should be Tier I".
