NO WAY you guys hijack this thread and turn it into a Stars game review...

USA WINS!!!!! 2-0 ... that's 14-0 for you American football guys! Michael Bradley scores both goals for the US. Michael Bradley happens to be the son of the US head coach, Bob Bradley. Gee, what a unique idea...your highly talented and athletic son plays for you on the team where you serve as head coach. And, your Dad inserts you into the starting lineup because YOU DESERVE TO BE THERE after EARNING the spot in practice sessions. And, to top it off, no one is complaining about the head coach showing favoritism or knocking the kid simply because his dad is the head coach. WOW...what a concept. Now, where have I seen a similar situation recently, but where some folks are knocking the kid simply because he is the head coach's son?????? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Nice win, expected, but nice none the less for the US. Great start to the final stage of World Cup qualifying. Oh, you know...the World Cup where teams from across the globe actually do participate...very unlike some other unmentioned professional sport with "World" in the title of its championship series where teams from NO OTHER NATION participate. USA-USA-USA!!!!

Fell asleep halfway through this post....so what is the deal with Dallas' inability to score on Ilya Bryzgalov?? very much looking forward to the Canucks coming to the AAC friday night.

I am happy we won but that game was a bit of a whip. Why in the world did Mexico keep trying the long ball when they lacked the speed for it to work?

You did it - you made the analogy to a crappy 14-0 football game! Hooray! Then, you compared it to the Dodge situation but forgot the part where the previous best player defects to Brazil for no reason. Does this mean that a Riley-led NT team could beat that Techa Prep School that plays Dallas Jesuit and Texas schools sometimes. I guess soccer fans just don't have the passion of UNT's sprawling fan base because the only thing I have heard anyone complain about in 10 years is the best players leaving to play in other countries and Bruce Arenas.

Also, since soccer plays so damn infrequently, we should have added that to the discussion yesterday. I run 7-9 miles a day, so do I "run" more than a soccer player if you go by timeframe? Sometimes I even kick rocks while I do it

You know what I really like about soccer though? The global hooliganism and despicably racist fans. It's like a post on this forum, but with more chanting and possibly more going on.

Back to the Stars - here's hoping Roberto "Borat" Loungo stays off his game until the weekend.

Quoner...previous best player defects to Brazil???? What? Just an attempt at bad humor or what? Tell me how a national team player "defects to Brazil"? If you, or anyone for that matter, actually watched the game, there is no way you would "fall asleep" or think it dull. Lots of "hits" for you hockey fans too. So, a 14-0 football game is, by definition, a "bad game"? Please explain that brillant piece of logic?

Mexico is trying anything to get out of its current losing streak. The long ball is not their game, as a poster noted, and with the wind and field conditions it made it even that much more "interesting" that they tried it at all. But, Mexico does have some speed with all the young players on its roster. I though the US was "lucky" to get the shutout as Mexico attacked as best it could and have several really nice shots on goal. A couple of nice plays by Tim Howard in goal "saved" the game for the Americans.

Anyway, it was a nice win by the US, and the strategy to play it in Columbus was worked very well. Not as cold as expected, but windy and wet. The US squad is much better suited for those conditions than is the Mexican team.

If you were "whipped" by watching...why did you watch? I'm guessing you just wanted to say something "cute".

USA-USA-USA!!!!!

Oh, yes...GO MEAN GREEN!

Analogies really escape you - don't worry about it.

No - the converting goals to touchdowns analogy is a complete kick in the crotch every time a soccer fan does it. People don't care about that at all. That is an idiot explanation but forth by European-fans to try to explain why American's don't care. no one - save Big 12 boosters who believe those really were the best teams this year - is distracted by shiny scoreboard lights.

Congratulations on Howard's nice save. Even in a poorly played mid season hockey game, I saw 15 really good ones. and more than 50 total.

I never said I watched it at all. You are really bad at this reading thing.

I just hope the more we beat soccer at Mexico the more we secure our borders. YEEEHAW!! USA!!

You are 100% correct...Frankie handled this incident in a very calssy manner indeed. I am so glad you can recognize class when you see it. Thanks for posting this....at least the fans were not throwing beer at the players and coaches as they left the game ala Texas-OU football games.

It happens...and not just in soccer. I know that's a surprise to some.

I don't buy the 14-0 comparisons... It isn't a valid comparison.

First of all, yes, I would be bored by a basic standard average 14-0 game.

With that said, a non-boring 14 pt game could happen in almost endless combinations.

14 = 2 TD + 2 extra points

14 = 4 FGs + 1 safety

14 = 7 safeties

14 = 1 TD + 2pt + 2 FGs.

... etc ... so on ...

2-0 soccer game is just that. 2 scores. And yes, I was bored to tears with Auburn-Miss game this year... 3-2!?1 I didn't run around saying, "that is a 1-1 soccer game."

I would hope you wouldn't say a 3-2 game was a 1-1 game. What would your math profs say? :lol:

Like I have said before...no end to this debate, but "ain't it fun"? I cannot belive I got to page three with this thread. Whoooo-Hooooo! I think there are several "closet soccer fans" on the GMG.com board. :blink:

But wouldn't it be a 1-1 soccer game? There was 1 score by one team and one score by the other. By my math, that is 1-1. There are just multiple ways to score in football that have different values.

Who cares?! Hockey and soccer are both boring as sin to watch on TV and neither are relevant here. If you enjoy them, fine! If you don't, fine! Nobody cares either way. If it makes anyone feel any better, neither is as lame as NASCAR.

I believe your opinion in this particular thread is not needed this is between socgirl people and true hockey fans.

Though I agree I don't think NASCAR could even qualify as a sport
