I read in the Vito blog that the team this past year had the highest GPA of any teams in the past 10 years. This is one area for which TD, his staff, and most importantly the kids deserve credit. These kids are here to get an education first and play ball second. TD has stated all along that he wants this team to perform on the field and in the classroom.

RV also said that our APR number should be back up so that we shouldn't lose any more ships. Great news.

The whole APR thing confuses me. Does this mean we will get back the scholarships we lost?

It is confusing but as I understand it BCS teams can have 85 on scholarship per year, minus any taken away by the NCAA to comply with the APR rule. This past year I believe that we could only have 81 scholarship players. We are allowed 120 total players at the beginning of fall practice and a total of 105 when the season starts. As a rule that would be 85 scholarship players plus 20 walkons.

So yes, we will get back the four scholarships since I believe that the reduction was for one year only.

That is great news! Good work by the students! Glad to hear the UNT staff is placing priority where it needs to be. I had

no doubts about their intentions. They are doing the right things by the student-athletes. GMG

Great to see some positive comments about what Coach Dodge is trying to do with the program. Also, nice to see another recognition that these kids are at UNT to get an education...first...and play football second. Perhaps some of the "I don't like the system" comments from both players AND parents that we have been hearing have something to do with the classromm emphasis???? Just wondering.

This is GREAT news. I also think this sore of thing will help turn around the on-field performance as well. Kids will come to UNT KNOWING that education is a priority...that's always a good thing.

Thanks TD and staff from making classroom performance a priority. I seem to recall TD saying as much when he first arrived.

GO MEAN GREEN!

Probably not - but nothing beats misspelling "classromm" when taking veiled shots at the commitment a few kids had to their education.

If I sat down and edited poorly written posts, I would have had twice as many posts as everyone's favorite fire fighter last year alone. I have an AP style book at my desk - and have some training in APA as well. I'm not sure if Harry ever decided to make this an academic or journalistic publication, so I try not to commit to one.

I just enjoyed the "ironing" of the earlier post. It was delicious.

I know it's been awhile since my non-computer based writing training, but I know I missed the classes on using periods and quotation marks. Damn chicken pox.

Have you ever read the blog formerly know as TY Sports? It looks like it is edited by a three year old. Don't sweat it, Kram. If it makes you feel better, I don't even notice the 10-20 typos you have in your posts anymore.

Especially this steaming pile

Also, TYSports is dead.

He's got one out of two headed in the right direction. Progress is being made on the academic side, now time for the athletic side to show the growth. It will in 2009.

97 and 03 I am "hurt", never have I had more than 10 typos in a post. Should we all start counting yours?:rolleyes: I think not, better things to do with my time. Such as reading all the negative "stuff" on GMG.com and posting some "positives" to try to offset the "gloom and doom" folks. Too fun! You have to love it. :P
