I really like the clips I see of White. You can watch him one on one in a pass rushing drill here. His video is about 1/4 into it and he is going against A&M signee Patrick Lewis who is rated at 5.8. White holds his own against a very talented player in Lewis. He's 6-2, 318 and looks like a football player! Welcome aboard Kyle!

It appears that Atterbery is a kicker and punter. Here's a youtube video of a 55-yards punt from Atterbury and a press clipping. Looks like he has a leg! He was a 2nd team all state 5A punter. His brother must have been a good player because he is mentioned in a lot of the articles.

Atterbery's brother Zac is a punter for the Washington Redskins.

Will wants to do both at NT. He's a good get for NT. Great kid from a great family.

It does sound like a great pickup for NT. I still think our kicking game needs overall work from the coaching as well as the player perspective. It will be interesting to see how the coaching of kickers is done, since it doesn't appear Gandy is experienced at working with them, and may need help from the previous strength coach (Seroka?).

The current Scout web site also shows an offer from Louisiana

Some reason scout.com uses just "Louisiana" for ULL so he had offers from 2 sunbelt rival schools , ULM & ULL.

I'm guessing the coaches didn't have much confidence in landing Boswell with the offer to Atterbery

This makes me feel 100 times better. If this kid sticks and we can firm up the Adkinson commit then I'll have to say I may have been wrong about this class. Two DT's in this class who have the size to contribute today is a good haul...3 would be great though

I have to agree with you; I have been trying to figure out how we'd have any depth at DT next year and wasn't coming up with many answers.

Folks at ULL resent being referred to as UL-Lafayette. They say they were the first University of Louisiana and simply refer to themselves as Louisiana.

Well, according to the U-LA System website, all of these schools are part of it:

  • Grambling State University
  • Louisiana Tech University
  • McNeese State University
  • Nicholls State University
  • Northwestern State University
  • Southeastern Louisiana University
  • University of Louisiana at Lafayette
  • University of Louisiana at Monroe

Parts of this are duplications of previous posts, but for the umpteenth time....

What is now Tulane University was the original University of Louisiana. When they went private back many years ago and changed their name the University of Louisiana was dormant for something like eighty years. When University of Southwestern Louisiana wanted to change their name, they went to Tulane and secured the rights. They had actually started using the name University of Louisiana when some of the legisilators, former LSU alumni, found out about it. They had the Attorney General (a graduate of the LSU law school) rule that they couldn't use it. Frankly, they thought that gave them too much stature. Those LSU legislators passed a bill that said that USL could change to the University of Louisiana only if there was a second university in the UL System that would change also. Northeast Louisiana University agreed and so they became officially University of Louisiana at Lafayette and University of Louisiana-Monroe.

ULL (they don't like that a lot better than louisiana-Lafayette) had already been using the term Louisiana/University of Louisiana for several weeks and had gotten some of the media to use that term when referring to them also. They don't like the term Lafayette because there is an FCS university in Pennsylvania with that name. The idea is, if you can get enought people to call you by a particular name then that is what you become. They are making a concerted effort to be called Louisiana in all but official usage.

It is the oldest institution in the UL System and probably deserves the right to be called just Louisiana. Louisiana-Monroe is a newer institution (circa 1931 as a junior college) and does not seem to mind being referred to as ULM.

The news of these 2 latest recruits makes me think of a book title I see every once in a while when I go to the local library, "When will there be good news?". It was about a much more serious situation; daily life in Iraq, I believe, but for some reason that book title had been coming to mind lately whenever I would think about the NT football program. And yes, I do regard the news of promising recruits at DT and punter as "good news".
