HSO: Dungy is humanly reprehensible. He offends me in most ways. I wouldn't hire him.

It really is just my HSO, but here goes the bleeding heart... I know most of you will be surprised.

Dungy's son killed himself, related to being gay, depressed and a drug addict (by friends accounts, self medicating depression).

Dungy comes out and spreads homophobia, speaks at anti-civil liberties fund raisers in Indiana. Is on Costas Now and says he has no problems with Jews, Muslims, Atheists (etc) on his team... but the gay? He says it is against the bible.

Then, Dungy writes a book about parenting...

JD Ducks.

I got the book for Christmas and am looking forward to doing a book report. I don't share your dislike though....but you never know.

Anyway, I knew you were pretty liberal, so I'm not surprised that you disagree with someone who has conservative views. But to call him "humanly reprehensible"? I guess you would say the same about anybody who believes practicing homosexuality is wrong?

HSO = Hot Sports Opinion...its a Ticket reference.

JD Ducks = JohnDenver ducks...as in he issued his opinion, probably viewed as unpopular by many on the board, then is preparring for the firing of projectile objects at his head by cowering, or ducking.

As for his views...the idea that the man could denounce homosexuality...which in effect denounces his own son...the same son who took his own life, appearantly b/c of depression surrounding his homosexuality and possibly the inablity to connect with his father over that issue...then to write a book on parenting? Reprehensible is actually a pretty good word.

Sure, you are probably right about my hyperbole for "humanly reprehensible." I find the process of writing a parenting book after your son killed themselves, proclaiming gay is wrong, and pretty much validating your kid's suicide, to be reprehensible. Doesn't seem to jibe with treating humans humanely. Again, it is hyperbole, but along the lines of how I feel about him...

I find the process of writing a parenting book after your son killed themselves, proclaiming gay is wrong, and pretty much validating your kid's suicide, to be reprehensible. Doesn't seem to jibe with treating humans humanely. Again, it is hyperbole, but along the lines of how I feel about him...

Do you have any specific quotes, or are you connecting a lot of invisible dots? I was under the impression that his son's suicide pretty well crushed him. I think homosexuality is wrong, but I in no way validate the young man's suicide.

I had never heard that Dungy's son was homosexual until now, and I am not familiar with any of the other events you mention. As far as the link you provided, it just strikes me as a typical liberal opinion piece playing the tired gay bias=race bias card.

If you agree that his son's suicide crushed him, how can you say that Dungy validated it?
