Just posting.. No real reason.

A fake tilt-shift Fouts Field. post-666-1231534528_thumb.jpg

You know...I was as excited as everyone else when the athletic fee was passed...but looking at this picture and thinking back on some of the amazing times I've experienced at Fouts Field; ripping down the goal posts, mocking Troy's punter, sneaking in alcohol, feeling superior to Baylor...this place really isn't that bad.

I'm just thinking out loud and wondering if this fee could be better allocated through the athletic program. The general concensus is that the football program will improve once we have the stadium...but is it possible that we're "putting the cart before the horse?" If instead of dedicating this money to the stadium, we could increase recruiting budgets (or coaching budgets for a new coach...but not to get off topic) and build the program...and then maybe spend a bit to put a bit more aesthetic work into Fouts.

And this also isn't a football only athletic fee. Most of you guys know I'm a basketball guy, and while JJ's guys have struggled a bit this season we have the start of a winning program...show a bit more of a financial commitment and this program could really take off. Plus swimming is showing signs of strengthening under Dykstra...a new golf coach...a winning tradition in women's soccer...AND maybe baseball/mens soccer could get added with this renewed financial investment.

It's just something to think about...putting all of our apples in one basket and hoping that the entire athletic program grows based upon a $60 million stadium is risky and perhaps short-sighted.
