Ohio State V Texas

You want to keep the Buckeyes out after that game? That was a helluva game!

Actually, OSU really almost totally annhilated the myth of Big XII South superiority tonight.

I think Texas proved that they are worthy of a #4 ranking. The winner of the OU/Florida game would be my #1, Utah #2, USC #3, UT #4, loser of OU/Florida #5.

Lets examine the Buckeyes and their record.

2008/09 Fiesta- Texas 24, Ohio State 21 [LOSS]

2007/08 BCS Championship— Louisiana State University 38, Ohio State 24 [LOSS]

2006/07 BCS Championship— Florida 41, Ohio State 14 (final #2 ranking) [LOSS]

2005/06 Fiesta— Ohio State 34, Notre Dame 20 (final #4 ranking) [WIN]

2003/04 Fiesta— Ohio State 35, Kansas State 28 (final #4 ranking) [WIN]

2002/03 Fiesta— Ohio State 31, Miami (FL) 24 (2OT) (National Champions) [WIN]

The Buckeyes are 3-3 in BCS bowls and 1-3 in National Championship games. Also, didn't the 2002 MNC game have a questionable call in it?

I enjoyed the Utah/Alabama game more due to the fact that it paired two teams that aren't regulars in BCS Bowls.

Exactly. Unless OU wins in an absolute squeaker the dirty Burnt Orange have zero legs to stand on in their claim of a shared national title.

3-3 isn't bad?

They've been in 6 BCS games, that's true. Alabama may have been new this year, but they are as "old money" as you can get, with perhaps the exception of Notre Dame. The Tide claims like 12 National Titles. It was nice seeing Utah in the mix though.

Wow that was a great game. Texas and Ohio State both played really well....

I thought all along that Texas deserved to be in the BCS national title game instead of OU, which they beat by 2 possessions and double-digits, but the BCS has a very short memory or attention span.

Can you believe how great of a playoff we could have had if there was 8 or even 16 of these teams teamed up. Then we could crown a real champion.

Bama might be "old money" but they've won 3 national titles in my lifetime ('78 to '08) with the most recent being in '92.

Edit: There have been 3 teams that have made the same number of appearances for the MNC since 2000 with 1 of those teams making its 4th appearance (Oklahoma).

Which is more than Texas and Ohio State have put together in our lifetimes('78-'09 here as well).

tOSU had a great defensive game plan and stopped Texas' already anemic running game. Their pass defense was smothering, and they got good pressure on McCoy for most of the night. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes couldn't punch the ball in when they got close to the end zone, and they had issues running the ball after the first half, as Muschamp made adjustments at the half that essentially shut the run game down. Once UT started rolling McCoy more, they were able to start moving the ball.

Tressel is a great coach, and I love to watch the Buckeyes play defense. McCoy and Cosby were clutch, and several receivers who hadn't been seen much this year made some great contributions in the last couple drives for UT.

Last night showed me that:

-The Big 12 South was not the almighty conference everyone said it was (as if Ole Miss and Oregon didn't already say enough)

-Jim Tressel is a terrible offensive coach and outsmarts himself instead of sticking with what works.

-Pryor (for now) is the Tavaris Jackson of college football but his coach lets him run

-USC and Utah should play a game to get a shot at the winner of Thursday's game

-If Texas gets a piece of the title after Mack votes them #1, Ole Miss and Tech should get to share it to. Maybe we could just award medals from here on out - or let people assign their own grades based on how they feel about their team.

Now don't let your anti-UT bias show

I still think UT deserved to be in the title game over OU.

Who did USC beat this year besides Penn State? The PAC-10 was down this year. Of course, claiming full disclosure, I truly despise USC.

I was shocked Beanie Wells didn't carry the ball more and think Ohio State could have won the game if they would have run it until UT proved they could stop them.

Question: I know the OSU band spelling out OHIO and the dotting of the "I" are traditions, but shouldn't the University of Ohio be doing this and not OSU?

USC also beat Ohio State. The same school UT had to beat on a last minute TD. The Trojans won by a bundle though. And while the bottom of the Pac-10 was pathetic, the league was 5-0 in bowl games.

Why should the U of Ohio spell out Ohio and not OSU? Either school should have a reasonable claim I would think?

And 0-4 vs the MWC.

Wells did not play vs USC.
