If I recall, UNT was to select a developer for the new hotel complex or remodel at Eagle Point (golf course). Anyone heard anything about this...this will play a major role in the Athletic Village.

And, Why are they waiting until 2010 to even break ground for the new stadium....there just is never an y urgency concerning this issue...our competition started later and will finish sooner...you know..schools like FAU, etc. This seems to just get pushed back ...just hope this is really going to happen...that is, before we are all dead and buried.

Step 1: Wait

Step 2: Get sick of waiting, start thread expressing urgency

Step 3: Debate

Step 4: UNTFlyer gets update from RV and shares while school is in session

Don't know about the hotel project.

The legislature is not yet in session, so no updates regarding the fee.

The university is currently in the process of selecting the general contractor.

Stadium construction is scheduled to begin January 2010, completion in the summer of 2011, open for the 2011 season.

I went to the athletic office two months back to pick up BB schedules for myself and friends and I also came across the new 4 page stadium info brochure.

It says that stadium ground-breaking might take place as early as this summer. This is what I am praying for.

It would really awesome if this was our last season at Fouts and we opened play in Fall 2010.

Not going to happen. They are telling the general contractors bidding for the project they won't break ground until next January.

Do they have new plans for the stadium and how close to the current model is it? Why the wait for another year to break ground? WAIT....that is all we do. RV said during the Rice game we would look at breaking ground in early spring to early summer....whats happened? We could get this stadium open by 2010 season with some effort, then we are only one year late from RV's previous statements...will it never end? WAIT, WAIT, WAIT....stadium....2-0, 1-0 ...let's wait for 2009 season to see if TD can turn this around....hell, we are worse than anytime in history!!! lets get things moving like successful programs do.

I imagine it has more to do with the timing of 1) the legislature, 2) the HKS final design, 3) the availability of general contractors (how much notice do they need to gear up for an 18-month project?), 4) the hotel project, which will be closely tied to the stadium, 5) BOR approval, 6) city zoning approval, and 7) the county's plans for widening Bonnie Brae Blvd.

A year may seem like a long ways away, but in terms of coordinating all of this, it's a looming deadline.

Is that all??? That's nothing. What's slowing this thing down. Do we not know or care what we are doing??? We must be just dumb hicks from Denton. I'm sure this is all TD, GB or RV's fault....../sarcasm off/ :o:lol::lol:

GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

I hear the construction crews are heading back to Mexico because they can't find enough work here. :P

The bolded area probably does not matter since UNT is the State so it is a mute point in most cases., also not sure why the county would widen Bonnie Brae since it sits in the Denton City Limits, if anything the State should be kicking in some cash from Impact fees to pay for improvements.

Man, I'm tired of hearing about dates for completion/groundbreaking, etc. At one point, we talked about a new stadium in 2007, then 2009, then 2010, now 2011. This is almost to the point of being funny.

Exactly. This time, the university has set a proposed start date.

I had my garage blown down May last year, after 2 rounds with the Neighborhood Historic committee, 2 rounds with the Landmarks Commission, 2 rounds with Zoning, and working with two different plumbers to move a gas line, and the city inspectors...we are finally beginning construction this week. Oh happy day.

I'm just sayin

Think of it this way - if we had a new stadium in 2007 it would already be two years old and well on its way to obsolescence right now. It would have already lost that new stadium smell. By waiting until 2011, we assure ourselves of the possibility of having the latest and greatest of everything...state-of-the-art flat screen TVs in the suites, the most advanced concession dispensers, most fuel efficient generators, LED stadium lights, etc.

Just for the sake of comparison, say you bought a cell phone a few years ago. You might have picked out this popular model:

But, if you waited until today to buy one, you could have this:

I ask you...which would you prefer??? I rest my case....waiting is definitely better than having one now! :P

I've never seen the man so excited about the stadium project. He said everything is on schedule, corporate fund raising *IS* going on, and that we are still on target to break ground late spring/early summer. The legislation will be introduced in January and we're keeping our fingers crossed that it will pass early rather than later in the session.

Flyer,

Yes, 6 months is no big deal. But, what changed in just over a month?

I'll take the old telephone. I can't figure out that new one you have pictured.

This analogy is more suited to a discussion about picking out a jumbotron for the new stadium. On that issue, they ought to wait as long as they can before making a final decision.

I understand your point, but those conversations we had about completion dates didn't just come out of the blue. All of the speculation/discussion was based on statements, whether public or from insiders, from representatives of the athletic department.

I also understand that the department might have been slightly overconfident in their ability to make this happen in those time frames. Until I see a formal statement that we are breaking ground, I'll continue to not get my hopes up. I seriously wouldn't be surprised at all if this thing wasn't ready until the 2013 season.

Think of a new stadium at UNT and the corresponding promises/start dates the way you would think of physical responsibility, accountability and promises made for the good of U.S. Citizens by the U.S. Government.
