It might just be me but it seems like something is missing with this years team. I keep waiting for a Wooden or a Williams to come back into the game after taking a short rest. Maybe a Watson or Bell. This years team seems like it just doesn't have that edge thats needed to make it back to the Big Dance.

I believe that we have some very talented players and I don't think we will see too many Trilli blowouts like this years Houston game but I just don't see us going anywhere this year in conference play. I sincerely hope I am wrong but I don't feel very confident about our success this year. It just feels like we are missing someone, a player who could bring us together as a team and propel us to a level of play that makes us better than we could ever be playing as individuals.

I don't know. It just feels like something or someone is missing this year. Hope I'm wrong.

We're giving up too many easy buckets. It seems that we have to struggle for an inside bucket, while the opposition gets into the lane at will. I too am afraid that it could be a long conference season if we don't come up with something quick.

Jones has done magificently recruiting athletic players that can double their roles (such as playing 1 or 2, 2 or 3, etc). Having said that, a good basketball team still needs a true point guard and a strong presence on the inside.

White is a great ball handler and shooter, but has a lot of room to grow as a passer/"quarterback" per se. And, well yes, we miss Wooden.

I agree something is missing. I dont know if we need to shake the lineup or what. We dont seem to have a fiery leader like a Ben Bell, maybe his loss was greater than what we expected. Could be a long season if we dont regroup and get a W tomorrow.

As has already been stated, a true point would be nice. Also, we really miss having a low post scoring threat. I like George and when he really tries he can score down low, but one can tell by watching him that he isn't completely comfortable doing that and would rather be a little further out and face up.

QFT. We've got two vert nice undersized off guards handling the point this year.

Two undersized shooting guards handling the point. I would love to see a TRUE point guard on this team next year.

Just look at the assists to turnover ratio for White, and you will see that he is anything but a point guard. Marquis is better, but still a shoot first guy.

Who is Marquis? Are you thinking Marquis Mitchell, arguably the best on the ball defender in JJ's tenure who also didn't really find his way out of JJ's doghouse, ala Adam McCoy? Or did you mean Dominique...for anyone who felt he was developing into our PG, review the last 20 seconds of the UTA game.

This isn't the year. We have talent, plenty of talent...enough talent to win us a game over the likes of an MTSU tonight, or a WKU or a USA later in the season on the merits of our talent alone...maybe Collin, Josh and TT all get hot on the same night and we even blow the doors off someone...but we'll come back the next game, shoot in the 30s from the field and lose to Troy.

Needs:

1. Point guard. Josh is a scoring guard, Dom a combo who would be lethal coming in off the bench. I've heard mixed reviews on Brister, but at 6'3" 215 he'd be a really nice fit next to 5'8" 165.

2. Leadership. I don't get to see the games save for the shit feed from MGS, but I haven't seen anyone really take control of this team. Someone needs to step up and be vocal, call out a player after a poor shot or errant pass...be the first to pick up a teammate after taking a charge, ect...last year it was Ben Bell...he filled needs 1 and 2 and his loss as not been addressed.

3. Glue. We have 8 capable scorers, but nothing that binds them into a coheisive offensive unit...conversly we don't have that guy willing to use 85% of his energy on the defensive end locking up the opponent's best scorer...I hope that's what JJ sees in Shannon Shorter...or possibly Collin Mangrum...a guy who when you look at the box scorer he has just five points but played 30 minutes b/c of all the intangible things he brings to the court.

Hopefully we get one of those talent games tonight...a win is a win and these needs can't be addressed in January and February.

I do think that Harold Stewart is a glue kinda guy tho CBL. He just can't see the floor with our already thin frontline. But almost every game he plays, he brings good, energetic minutes - but looking at the Box score he usually doesn't have much to show for it.

Except maybe blocks.

Other than that, I pretty much agree with all of what you said.

Get #1, and he is #2 and #3.

I agree about Harold. He was a key part to us winning the conference title a couple of years ago. He is a hustle guy, he gets boards and plays hard on defense. I think it should be Josh, Collin, Tristan, Harold, and Eric starting for us. With George, Adam, and Dominque our first guys off the bench.
