Brown had already been successful as a college head coach elsewhere before his rough start at UNC.

Not sure if I follow you. Are you saying because he had previous success his rough start at UNC should have been expected? Or excused? Brown's very mild success at Tulane (11-23) did nothing for UNC.

no he's saying that unlike Dodge, Brown had experience as a head coach before with some success. And now you've made me type a response that people won't dig for being short and to the point!

Atleast Mack Brown had legitimate and thorough college D1A coaching experience.

Okay, I've got that. But the results were similar his first two years at UNC. So does his previous coaching experience lower expectations coming into UNC? Why would you expect less of Mack Brown than you would of Todd Dodge? That's what I do not understand.

My point was that Brown built a bowl team elsewhere before his rough start at UNC. He wasn't an unknown quantity on the college level. As bad as he started at UNC, at least his employers could look at his Tulane record and see that he had come through before.

I'll buy that to an extent. But the poster's apparent intent when he started what has now become a full hijack of this thread was to say that a turnaround was possible.

If the players, or at least a good core of the players, are with Dodge, buying into his system, then I think a turnaround is possible. While Brown's previous experience and modest success may have given confidence in the face of pathetic losing, it should have also raised expectations coming in.

We hired a coach out of high school, simple fact. Was it the best choice? Obviously not, if immediate on-field success was the goal. With regard to long-term success, that remains to be seen. But is it not entirely possible that a 3-21 coach just getting his feet wet might have more upside than a 2-20 coach who has been around the block?

Once again, we disagree(?) respectfully and come away with a greater understanding of each other's views. We're definitely very different people with wildly divergent views, but if I ever meet you I'll give you a totally heterosexual manly hug.

If this whole Quoner friendship falls apart, I think you and I should look into getting an Odd Couple reality TV show.

As long as you don't make me your Quoner.

Yes, "a number of times." I suppose one is a number. Rose was flagged once. We were penalized twice all day. The other penalty was for a facemask against our defense.

Anyway, it doesn't take an expert to figure out that with #67 in, we only gave up one sack all day to one of the best defenses in our conference.

Congratulations to the seniors who got to play; and, to prove that they should have been on the field alot more this season that they were.

Rose was flagged more than once, actually twice on the last drive. They, the official scorer, only records accepted penalties. He was flagged for holding on the first down play from ASU's 41 yard line that wiped out a pass completion resulting in 1st and 20. Vizza was then sacked for the only time in the game on our 3rd and 14 play resulting in a 7 yard loss. He was then flagged on our last offensive play of the game for holding, twice in one drive, which was declined due to ASU intercepting the "Hail Mary" throw to Stickler. Seems to me he accounted for one of our two penalties and was on the line that gave up the only sack of the game.

Rose didn't start the game and the participation report doesn't state how much each player played, so I have no way of knowing since I didn't stare at the OL all game.

I don't like calling any of the players out negatively, but I am in this case to point out your bias against Dodge and the players he chose to play against ASU. I salute every senior on the team this year and thank them for their contribution to the program. Rose had a fine career considering he was moved around by both Dickey and Dodge, which is a testament to his versatility. I wish him nothing but the best in the future.

You people have lost your ever-loving mind. You knew this was a 4-5 year project when Dodge was hired. You knew it was and not only did you accept it, you celebrated it. Ridiculous.

I'm ashamed of some of you.

Be careful, TFLF will call you a Dodge suck up.
