Had They Just Fallen Down....

Troy had a 31-3 lead with 8:02 left in the 3rd quarter. I looked at what would have possibly happened had Troy simply handed off 4 straight times and made zero yards, but snapping the ball at the last possible second each play on each possession and just fallen forward, or down or whatever. Given that there would not have been an interception to help LSU to the easy field goal that brought them to within 4 at 31-27, by my guess, Troy would have forced all of LSU's timeouts and still held the ball with 1:27 left on the clock and holding a 31-24 lead. At that point they could have run the remainder of the clock off and LSU couldn't have done anything about it. Barring a miracle drive, in the least LSU would have had to drive for the tie and the game being sent into overtime.

And I stand corrected in the other thread I mentioned the 40,000 LSU fans that missed the comeback. After seeing the replay's on ESPN I doubt there was 5,000 people left in the stadium?
