How brave they are to stand up to this woman, they really show her? Too bad Grandma doesn't whip everyone of them.

wow they must be so proud of themselves.

Guess freedom of speech only means they get the freedom go figure.

Loudest voices for tolerance are the least tolerant around.

This is the civil rights movement of our generation. No matter how you feel about gay marriage, it is flat wrong to repress a segment of our population. It's sort of bitter-sweet that on the same day our great country voted in it's 1st black president, the people in California decided to disenfranchise tax-paying gays who want to marry. We still have a long way to go.

Bingo!!!

And yes, there are more important issues, but this is an issue. Yes, its wrong to repress a segment of our population. That lady had EVERY right to voice her opinion.

She did, and they should have found another way to express their opinions to her. It's wrong, plain and simple.

I'm still wondering how my marriage becomes any less sacred or valid because two dudes get married.

It's a religious thing. Here's the short run of it.

marriage = made sacred by God -> God does not smile upon any marriage but man+woman -> therefore, only for man+woman = man+man or woman+woman =/= sacred marriage
So one could also argue:

marriage = made sacred by a loving God -> God does not smile upon any marriage not made for love -> therefore, marriage for convenience or in case of out-of-wedlock pregnancy or money =/= sacred marriage

And so this is also true:

marriage = made sacred by a loving God through the concept of permanent pair bonding -> God does not smile upon divorce -> therefore marriage resulting in divorce =/= sacred marriage
But then, this all also implies that:

non-sacred marriage = catalyst for sanctity change at large scale -> therefore emmitt's marriage (sacred) can be rendered "not sacred" should two of his male or females get married because: non-sacred marriage > sacred marriage in terms of sanctity levels

This does not explain why non-sacred > sacred. But you could argue that:

2(sacred marriage) > non-sacred marriage -> therefore more sacred marriages could in fact outweigh the non-sacred marriages
But again, this all hinges on:

non-sacred > sacred

And in terms of importance:

gender matching > functioning, loving pair bonding

I've always wondering the same thing. I've also wondered why people worry/obsess about gay marriages when a greater concern is the near 50% divorce rate amongst the straight community.... which tends to traumatize children and adversely effect their future functioning in life.

Here's my stance. Until every child in Amercia DOESN'T GO TO BED HUNGRY EVERY NIGHT, and until such time as every marriage that produces children DOES NOT END IN DIVORCE, the straight community should SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT SAME SEX MARRIAGE.

Same sex marriages are just a complete abomination of marriage. The next move is affirmative action of gays, and full force adoption of children rights for gays. I am against all three. Plus how do you go about proving you are gay to get an affirmative action job or a company proves they have met their quota. Further on this gay craze many large companies have already made employees sign a letter of gay support stating they accept and value the gay lifestyle. Which goes against every major religion know to man and nature. Plus they have been trying to force the teaching the value of equality of gays in public school and, for people that believe homosexuality is a complete sin and disgusting practice, they are having their religious freedoms stopped on plus having homosexual beliefs forced on children.

Further for the gay marriage supporters do you have a problem with polygamy? I have much less of a problem with it because it has tradition at some point in history among most religions and has still been practiced in many places in the world to this day. I know that there are many that would like to have multiple wives. But I can just imagine having an argument with multiple wives all POed at you at once, definitely not for me.

You won't. It's really a matter of preventing discrimination AND because it's solely a private matter and shouldn't be on the forms someone fills out to get a job. Hell, the military runs on a don't-ask-don't-tell system, and it's just fine. But should it come to light in the workplace, someone's sexuality doesn't change their ability to do their job.

Further on this gay craze many large companies have already made employees sign a letter of gay support stating they accept and value the gay lifestyle.

That's basically saying you won't sit there and discriminate someone for their sexuality. Doesn't mean you have to go to their parties. Besides, this isn't a craze. Homosexuality has been around probably as long as humanity has been around.

Which goes against every major religion know to man and nature. Plus they have been trying to force the teaching the value of equality of gays in public school and, for people that believe homosexuality is a complete sin and disgusting practice, they are having their religious freedoms stopped on plus having homosexual beliefs forced on children.

Religions are free to choose to preach what they see fit. The problem is when that teaching keeps people from "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Teaching that homosexuals are worthwhile people just like everyone else is fine - keep violence and hate down, promote co-existence. This doesn't mean you have to like someone that's homosexual, but they deserve to be treated like everyone else. Last I checked, most religions also teach tolerance one's fellow man, regardless of their lifestyle. There is a duty to show them the right way to live, but there's almost always a matter of choice involved.

Besides, I don't see how the gay couple next door to me keeps my girlfriend's family from going to church.

Further for the gay marriage supporters do you have a problem with polygamy?

Not so much in that it's not a huge morality problem. It's odd as hell, yes, since most people are programmed for pair bonding. Personally, it's really unfair to the women involved in it, but if that's the choice they want to make, that's fine by me.

Right, "it's"(a sexual act which defines someone being gay or not) is a private matter. I got that.

That's basically saying you won't sit there and discriminate someone for their sexuality.

So if "it's"(a sexual act which defines someone being gay or not) is a private matter, as you say, then how or what would somone do actually while sitting in an office and doing their job, which would tell every one else that they are gay that would somehow trigger someone to discriminate against them?

Just curious?

Marriage is basically a contract between two consenting adults. If two people of the same sex want to enter into this contract, I don't see why not. If they are tax paying citizens, they should have the right to the same civil marriage ceremonies as anyone else. If you think it's an abomination, then don't attend the ceremony.

The only problem I have with polygamy is when it involves underaged girls being "coerced" into the "group marriage". IMHO, what is being practiced in the twin towns of Colorado City Arizona, and Hildale Utah, is more like institutionalized pedophilia than polygamy. If a group of consenting adults want to enter into a group marriage agreement that's their business. I remember reading years ago about a polygamist marriage in Utah (it wasn't official) and in the group of women who were part of the "marriage" there was one female attorney, and one female doctor. I assumed that both of them were certainly smart enough to "consent".

Statistically, children adopted by gay couples are just as emotionally healthy as children who are raised by straight couples.

Inter-racial marriages are just a complete abomination of marriage. The next move is affirmative action of blacks, and full force adoption of children rights for inter-racial couples. I am against all three. Plus how do you go about proving you are black to get an affirmative action job or a company proves they have met their quota. Further on this inter-racial craze many large companies have already made employees sign a letter of racial equality stating they accept and value the black-on-white lifestyle. Which goes against every southern political policy and moral fiber know to man and nature. Plus they have been trying to force the teaching the value of equality of blacks in public school and, for people that believe inter-racial marriage is a complete sin and disgusting practice, they are having their white-supremist freedoms stopped on plus having oreo-couple beliefs forced on children.

Further for the inter-racial marriage supporters do you have a problem with slavery? I have much less of a problem with it because it has tradition at some point in history among most religions and has still been practiced in many places in the world to this day. I know that there are many that would like to have multiple free-laborers. But I can just imagine having an argument with multiple sweaty, muscular and abused slaves all POed at you at once, definitely not for me.

Gay is a choice race is not, sorry don't try to throw that race card crap at me.

Tolerance is not a problem but having gay marriage is a completely different thing.

Marriage is between a man and a woman period that is the definition of it and always has been, to say other is to redefine it.

Perhaps I should clarify before I'm accussed of calling you a racist. The point of the edit was to show that it isn't much of a stretch to change this argument into the same discussions that were taking place during the 50s and 60s (70s, 80s, 90s & 00s in the Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and parts of Florida and Texas...basically the South in general) concerning race and civil rights issues. I think our greatest celebrity board member even called this the Civil Rights movement for our generation.

And, just for kicks, to throw religion back into the mix...with about a 20 minutes to refresh my memory with J-STOR I promise you I could come up with a few dozen sermons that attempted to justify and rationalize slavery with scripture

Gay is a choice race is not,

I am really sorry that you feel this way.

Why are you sorry, it is a choice. I know at least 6 women that were treated crappy by their husbands and turned to women after their divorce. They were straight when they married, didn't just change overnight, it was a choice.

For those who knew (or at least had inklings (sp?)) that they were gay from a very young age, it was not a choice. Most issues in this world are not black and white, including this.
