Given they are separated by only 14 points, it's a virtual tie.

I didn't get that either. I'm not completely sure, but I bet Texas has had a stronger schedule and has only lost to the #2 team in the nation and beat OU head-to-head. I had expected the rankings to be similar, but with Tex/OU switched.

So, if OU beats TTech, which will be ranked higher. Using the logic of this poll, Tech would still be ahead of OU since OU lost to Tech, but then Texas would be ahead of Tech, since Tech beat Texas?!??! Arrghh, I'm caught in a loop, caught in a loop...

I think Tech can beat OU. My opinion on the coach's poll is they look at the present, meaning they put a lot of stock into how bad a team beats people. That is why coaches like Switzer, then Spurrier used to run the score up. TX did not blow out OSU, and then lost to Tech. I thought TX did not put a lot of points up on OSU because they wanted to control the ball and clock to keep OK St. offense off the field. That plan nearly backfired because of a couple of special teams plays. OU has put up what, 140+ points in their last couple of games. I think that is why they are ranked ahead of TX. Don't agree, by the way, just my opinion.

OU is ranked ahead of Texas because two other teams in the BCS Top 25 need them to be highly ranked in order to help their own bowl bids - TCU and Cincinnati. Both played OU this year, so OU's standing helps eachof their strength of schedule. Also, you've got Mike Leach at Texas Tech who is a former OU assistant. It will help him for OU to be ranked as high as possible when OU plays Tech in two weeks.

This is the prime example of why a playoff is needed. In a playoff, there is no bias for either regional sportswriters or coaches. You simply get the result that you get on the field.

Tech should be #1. Alabama plays the #15 team and needs overtime to beat them. Tech plays a higher ranked team in #9 Oklahoma State and smothers them in REGULATION and still is #2. I guess you get to be #1 if you are on the road because that is the only thing I can think of that would MAYBE sway the vote to Alabama because they were on the road and Tech was at home. But still you hang a 36 point victory on a top 10 team and you get edged out by a team that can barely beat a team ranked lower than OSU in overtime. I just don't get it.....

I think they get a pass because a win against LSU on the road just sounds more impressive than a win against OK State at home. Whether justified or not.

I don't think its going to matter, however, as I fully expect Florida to step-child Bama in the SEC champ game.

After watching that Tech game, I have to admit I was wrong about OK state and Tech. Tech is a very good team. I think they can win on the road in Norman. If so, Florida and Tech will make for an entertaining matchup, though I really don't think anyone can play with UF's speed right now.

Most Tech people I know prefer #2. You still go to the big dance at #2 and you're not subject to the #1 curse.

You want to be #1 at the end of the BCS Championship game, doesn't matter if you were #2 going in.
