So I'm lying there donating blood today and notice that the Phlebologist has a UT ornament on his lanyard. (I instantly and unfairly think "UT douche".) I asked if he was doing okay after the TTU loss, to which he said he didn't get to see the game. He then notices I'm wearing a North Texas shirt and have a UNT lanyard on. He asks if I work for the University or just a fan. I explained that I'm a fan, alumni, and season ticket holder. To my surprise (again, unfairly), he responded by saying "what a great school to have season tickets to".

He proceeds to tell me about how he has a buddy that had season tickets to the TCU games last year. He approached him about going to a TCU game with him, but the buddy said he wasn't using the tickets because he wanted to go to the UNT/Navy game instead. The friend said he thought North Texas does tailgating up right and better than any other school in the area. That's why he wanted to go to the UNT game. The Phlebologist and the friend wound up going to the UNT/Navy game and he said he had so much fun that he could hardly remember the game.

I get excited when I hear we are doing things that attract new fans to our football program, especially those that don't even have any sort of affiliation with the school or Denton. Makes me proud. We need more North Texas Douches.

Even though we lost, I thought that game was pretty memorable. Considering how crazy it was with the lead changing on every possession and the packed stadium, how could anyone not remember?

I don't remember single big play from that game.

Someone always has to put a negative spin on things! Good grief...this is a GREAT STORY. How long has it been since UNT has gotten this kind of "play" from UT fans????? Come on...yes, there was some trash on the parking lots after the game...I walked through it too and wished I had a big bag to pick up the cans...but, it was, to me and my wife, a learning experince for UNT and its fans...when was the last time so many showed up to tailgate? It takes a bit of time to get some of the stuff right...for fans, for the school, etc.

You know, this season there has been great tailgating too, and the trash in the lots after the games has been much decreased...it's a learning curve folks...

GREAT STORTY...keep 'em coming!

GO MEAN GREEN!!!

I did (SMU/TT) and always will wear North Texas spirit wear when I attend Texas Tech games with my daughter. Of course, for her I will don a pin or two for TT. But, NT is the predominant the highest color! The cap must always be NT!

Further proving universal adoration for all things Orange County, no one has ever given me grief for donning my UC Irvine stuff! Surprising considering we've never lost a football game. You'd think people would be jealous!

This brings up a question. For guys like me who didn't have football in college, who are we supposed to root for? I was always a Cal fan by virtue of a couple graduate students who were in my fraternity and absconded with me in the night one year to attend the Cal Stanford game (if you count sitting on tightwad hill drinking mass quantities of alcohol as attending). I've been a fan of the Golden Bears ever since. Is that legitimate fanhood? Should I in reality be barred from being a fan of college football?

Of course, the answer for me was to start this whole college thing all over again and choose a school with football, thereby getting it right this time!

I've proudly been "North Texas Douche" at TCU games before. Just doing my part.

I was the only green shirt in my section at the Aggie/Army game this year (dad was in the Corp class of 70)...lots of weird looks and I also heard lots of comments from Aggie fans saying..."that's where I went to school...or my son/daughter goes there".

SEC football would wither and die on the vine if colleges were limited to their own students and alumni for fans. Probably the same is true for all the "BCS" conference colleges. I was born when my parents were grad students at Penn State, my dad and graddad were both PSU graduates, and I was raised to be a Penn State fan. I also spent enough years in Texas that endeared the Longhorns to me.

When it gets lame is when people jump on the badwagon of teams they have no connection to. Like in the 80's, when all these Miami fans came out of nowhere and for no good reason, other than a college football team was having some success.

But when you attend a school, especially as an undergraduate, that school's team needs to be your team. I couldn't stand all the UNT students that wouldn't miss watching a Michigan or A&M game on TV, but couldn't care less what their own school's team was doing.

I'll be honest, i don't remember much between throwing up in the parking lot and the end of the first quarter. i seem to recall a lot of screaming and jumping and something about being attacked by jets... was the campus attacked by jet fighters?!?!

Funny this topic came up. I banned my wife from attending the FIU game, unless she switched out of her Tech shirt (she's a big fan). This wouldn't have been the first time she wore a Tech shirt to one of our games, but with the way the season was going, the morale of the fans and how close we sit to the high school recruits that attend, I decided to put my foot down. To make a long story short, she did not attend.
