This is just one of MANY things just totally wrong with college football.

In the latest USA today's poll... Oklahoma is ranked 4th and even got a 1st place vote. Texas , which beat them by 10 just weeks earlier and also has just one loss , is 7th. Truly pathetic , whomever voted OU #1 should have their voter right taken away.

TCU needs OU to be ranked very high in order to help them in their quest to be a "BCS buster." I'd bet the house Gary Patterson did it. Hey, why not? No one else is going to help his team along as far as FBS coaches go. Patterson knows he won't get respect/love from them, so he's doing what he can to help his team and program. He's coaching a "mid-major" not in one of the chosen few conferences with automotic ins. He's got to do what he can.

Does Stoops vote? That would be my guess.

It doesn't matter much. Tech will lose one of the next two games they play (OSU, OU) and everyone will get shifted around again. Now for you Tech fans, I'm not saying they aren't good because they are. I'm just saying, the way college football has been the past few years being in the Top 5 doesn't mean much until the bowls are announced. I just can't see Tech beating OU again, especially in Norman IMO.

Yes, the enevitable let down after such a huge game does loom ahead. Still, this may be the best defense Tech has ever had.

which, again, is kind of like the whole "smartest retard" bit...

Well crap, statistically it's not even true. I guess the way they were flying to the ball last saturday they just looked to me like they have one of their best defenses.

'08 so far, ranked 54th in total defense.

'07 ranked 45th

'06 ranked 58th

'05 ranked 30th

'04 ranked 46

'03 ranked 106th

'02 ranked 85th

'01 ranked 50th.

Or, look at it this way - they only gave up 7 less points than we did.

Thanks for looking up the facts. It could be a function of the offenses they are playing against as well, though they havent even taken on OK State or OU, so that would be hard to say.

I think what you saw Saturday was Texas at the end of a ridiculous stretch in an incredible college football environment on the road and not having enough left in the secondary due to age and injury to pull that game out. Tech's D was inspired. It was a hell of a game for them and credit is deserved. This the best Tech team I've ever seen.

I think Ok State's D will surprise Tech and OU will be a shootout. The Big 12 South is just really good this year. I'd love to see how one of those teams would match up Florida.

No one seems to be talking about the fact that OU DROPPED 2 ranks despite winning 62-28...

It's easy to explain why they dropped... They lost to a Texas team that isn't better than TTECH... thus TTECH had to jump them.

Florida jumping them is kind of a joke...

But really, your OU homerism shows because OU only beat up on a 5-3 Nebraska team, while Texas lost to an undefeated Tech - and still beat OU 2 weeks ago.

I would argue that Texas is a better team than Tech, just not last Saturday.

That's just the reason why a tournament system needs to be in place. I mean, the rule in competition isn't so much "who is the better team statistically" but "who is the better team when they face each other". The current BCS system is a lot of statistics and opinions. And those are flawed. What's never, ever flawed is the score at the end of the 4th.

Unless this is the NBA.

DId you have a problem with the pre-BCS, which was practically no stats and pure opinion?

I would argue that it doesn't matter what happens in the Big 12 South because the top five teams in the SEC have defenses that would shut down any of them. The Big 12 is the same as it's always been - overrated. Currently, horrible defenses at several schools - OU, Texas, Tech - are masked by high scoring offenses. These teams would be also-rans in the SEC.

I never understood why these two conferences schedule more matchups. I can recall all these great matchups: USC-OSU. Penn State-Oregon State. UCLA-Tenn. I don't remember the scores, but those are great names. But you rarely see the heavyweights out of the SEC/BIG12 duke it out for media love. Not that I recall anyways. UT did a home-home with Ohio State a few years ago with Vince Young.

Maybe they just like punching their way through the UNTs of the world on their way to an inevitable title game bout. Unfortunately for the BigXII, Ohio State gets more love by default (although, not so much this year).

Prove it. When they played, Tech won. That is all the evidence that we have.

I think his point is if they played 10 times, UT would probably come out on top at least 6 or 7 times. How do you prove that?

TTech won on Saturday. It was one game, and that's all they need.

Exactly my point. You can say that UT is better, but you have no evidence to back it up. Tech has beaten everyone that they have played. You can't prove that anyone is better right now.

Good God yes, I did. I'm glad the system got better, but it's still a flawed system.

Good thing Obama supports a playoff....
