...is going to be a stud! I didn't want it to sound like I was just drinking the green-cool-aid!

Here are the positions that I think we are set at for next year...

QB - Vizza

RB - Montgomery

G - Drake

C - Johnson

DE - Gilmore (he will be back at DE next year)

LB - Nwigwe

LB - Robertson

CB - Bush

S - Williams

The rest is up in the air in my opinion. There are some players that are having decent years, but I think the rest of the position can be considered up for grabs going into next year!

Any thoughts???

Great news! I do like how we look at RB next year--Cam, Dunbar, Micah . . . plus I imagine we'll get to see how Jeremi Mathis looks.

You are right about Williams. I knew we had something special when I saw him in one of the High School All Star games. He will be an impact player for years to come. Lets also note that we may have found that DB who is not afraid to lay the wood.

A very close friend of mine (unt grad) was a coach last year at Vernon. Said he was probably the most integral part of them making the playoffs last year. He was pretty excited when he learned he committed to UNT.

I'm pretty happy about him too, and it's cool to see him doing well. I think DeLoach will coach him up into a serious player.

Let's add Montgomery, Mosley, Dunbar, Hamilton (who, in case some of you didn't watch or attend the game, is an extremely dynamic player and a true threat to score every time he touches it), and the powerful freshman Jeremi Mathis to this running back conversation and we are set for some time.

Cam has proven to be a good 6+ ypc guy who chews up yardage. I'm personally excited about Dunbar and Hamilton and watching them for the coming 3 seasons. They are very dynamic players who have a lot of speed and are dangerous with the ball in their hands. And of course Micah Mosley is a steady-eddy guy who is very consistent. (let's not forget the threat of Riley Dodge running the ball either from QB or WR). Our running game looks good for years to come especially if we continue to improve our O-Line play.

Knowing that we both difference making wider receivers are graduating (Stickler and Fitzgerald); I wonder how well Mosely would fair lining up at WR?

For some reason Bush doesn't seem quite as effective as he has in the prior two seasons. Two that came up with really big plays on defense (in addition to Nwigwe and Robertson) were Kylie Hill and Steve Warren. I don't know what their status will be next year but if yesterday's game was any indication, they need to be starting.

I agree completely. Those four did a great job yesterday. Where the hell has Warren been all year? He was around the ball all day including on special teams. Knott to knock anyone in particular after this great win, but it would be great if we could somehow get an extra 10 yards on our kickoffs. Our special teams are still overrunning the ball on coverages. At least our return teams are showing some real improvement. Truly a big win, and I'm looking forward to a 4-8 season!

Stebo....after watching the Tech game, I noticed that Vizza and Harrell both throw off their back foot alot. The diffence is, Harrell's balls were still flying on a line w/ alot of zip. Vizza's tend to float very high. I wonder how much zip Riley will be able to put on the ball after a full year of rehab on his shoulder.

also, Vizza stopped running the whole second half. I think that really hurts the running game in the spread. Even though Cam ran well, we could've had some big plays if Vizza occassionally mixed it up by keeping it himself and running outside the tackles.

So you think Riley will eventually play QB over Vizza? Man, I just don't see that. I agree with you about the mechanics of Vizza but with a TE in now - as a blocker.... things could change. Riley might just end up as a full time athlete (receiver, return specialist, etc...)... I just think that they have spent an awful lot of time making Vizza the leader to pull him out of that position for any reason. If Riley gets a medical RS than that would let him play QB his JR and SR years and still keep Vizza hapy. I guess that is the best case scenario?

The Tech game should be the model of the UNT program. What makes Tech tough now is their multiple formations, TE, two back but most importantly TECH has a running game and their OL makes it happen. When your two deep safties have to play the run and respect the run, it opens up the passing game. Unlike the Troy game where their safties just worry about the pass, you have big time trouble throwing the ball. Dodge has to build the running game. Hamilton and Dunbar might give the speed that is so desperately needed at RB.

Vizza didn't quit running, no zone reads or QB draws were even called. The one, of two, designed QB runs, went for 38 yards and a TD. He showed his 4.68 speed. Gio is no speedster but way faster than Harrell.

I was at the Tech game. Harrel's throw on the final play floated like a mother. When a ball floats, its because a QB doesn't get enough legs into the throw. But Harrell has no big gun. Gio is and will be fine. He is only getting stronger every off season. He went from 195 to over 204 of muscle in one season. I saw him throw ropes to Fitzgerald and Dickerson to win the game at the frat house. Gio is at his best when the game is on the line. He made a great read to Fitzgerald, end of story.

Riley has a fairly good arm, but no where near the 30 yard rope that Gio can throw. I have caught balls from both and from Mallett, Lee, and all the top QB's from the Texas area, up at a Nike camp. Gio has no huge cannon but definitely can chunk it. He is only going to get better and better as the talent gets better. Face it UNT fans, right now, UNT lacks some on offense. If Tech had not running game, we would have lost because we don't use Graham in any of the running attack.
