I am about to leave for UNT's game against Western Kentucky and thought I would put up a quick recruiting note on the blog.

Maurice Langston, a wide receiver at East Central JC in Mississippi, will visit UNT on its big recruiting weekend Nov. 15. UNT used to bring in all of its top recruits for its football banquet weekend after the season. The Mean Green is off on the 15th.

I don't know if I have ever heard of a team bringing in key recruits on a bye week when nothing is going on.

It's also telling that UNT is looking to the junior college ranks for wide receivers at this point. UNT signed six wide receivers in its 2007 recruiting class, four in 2008 and brought in another transfer in Evan Fentriss. There have been several busts in both classes, which might force UNT to spend a scholarship on a JC player or two.

That could come back to haunt UNT, which has more holes in its depth chart than a block of Swiss cheese. The Mean Green needs every scholarship it can get to find immediate impact players to bolster its defensive and, offensive lines.

I don't know if I have ever heard of a team bringing in key recruits on a bye week when nothing is going on.

Could this be a new recruiting strategy designed to hide the horrible on-field performance from potential recruits? Or, maybe Dodge wants to monitor the off-field activities to better gauge whether prospective athletes would pass his drug tests?

Personally, I think we should ONLY sign juco recruits who can join us at mid-semester....and thus be here for spring football.

To me, jucos who don't show up until August...aren't worth the trouble.

That is just more sarcasm responding to the original post about all those JUCO busts that couldn't arrive at mid-term.
