I'll be there. Also, there are supposed to be two autographed basketballs to be given away at this event (one done by each team). They will be those great display basketballs....from what I am told. All you have to do to win one....is show up and sign up for the giveaway. Plus, there will be refreshments (including adult beverages) at this event.

I just got back from it, it was good. Turnout was kinda low...but boy I love hearing Johnny Jones speak, he is full of charisma. I think this will be a good year for both the men's and women's teams.

OK, I was there and here is my write up for Ty Sports (who wanted good news).

Denton, Texas AP-

Three thousand jam Alumni Center to greet Johnny Jones and Shanice Stephens

North Texas basketball coaches Johnny Jones and Shanice Stephens spoke to alumni and friends of the university Thursday night at the UNT alumni center. Both coaches predicted over 20 wins and both seemed confident that their teams would make it to the Big Dance. Over three thousand fans cheered at the news, as they sipped mint juleps provided to them by the event sponsor, The Baptist Student Union. Athletic Director Rick Villareal introduced the two coaches and added that he had just gotten clearance from the board of regents to explore adding another 10,000 seats to the new football stadium. The Mayor of Denton and all members of the City Council were at the event and both coaches were presented a bonus check for $10,000 by the president of the Denton Chamber of Commerce. The event lasted about an hour and a half, but BSU officials indicated that some did not leave until all mint juleps were consumed.

I was there...about 40 attended...free beer and soft drinks and great muchies...also free...it was a great evening and very positive. RV came early and those of us there got to talk to him one-on-one for quite awhile. I did extract a promise from him...witnessed by several people...that UNT will field a men's soccer team BEFORE it fields an ice hockey team! Man, I feel much better about that and inted to hold him to his promise...although, I am being bribed by a hockey supporter if hocky comes first that he will become rich and donate all the money for an ice hokey arena and name it after me!

Both Coach Jones and Coach Stephens did a GREAT job in talking about their upcomming seasons, and several assistant coaches were on hand from both programs for the meet and greet. They stayed after the respective coaches spoke to talk with anyone that wished to speak with them. I think great things are on the horizon for the men this season and that we will witness a re-birth with our women's team. I think our ladies will beat some folks this season who will be shocked! The story was told that the women are working extremely hard at practice and Johnny commented that he was glad that he was not in those practices. OPK, rumor too was that the ladies point guard put up about 34 points in a scrimmage against some of the men's tem members recently!

It was VERY POSITIVE and very upbeat and all who attended seemed pleased...even had the Chairman of our Board of Regents, Mrs. Gail Strange, in attendance. Very nice and what a geat show of support for both the Alumni Association and the Basketball program at UNT.

One word of note too...if you plan on attending the Conference Tournament in Hot Springs this year...book your hotel reservations early and book at the Embassey Suites. Was told that hotel is attached to the arena which holds about 5800 fans. Johnny mentioned how the players definitely "notice" and definitely appreciate seeing green in the stands at the tournament!

Both coaches did a great job of reviewing current players and competition to be faced this season. The SBC is getting known as a better and better BB conference all the time.

ALSO...Johnny memntioned the crowds at the Old Pit where an exhibition/pre-season game will be played this year...said he really hoped a crowd would fill that place so he could see what people were talking about when remembering the original PIT aka SMAKE PIT at UNT!!!! I'll be there...let's PACK THE PIT FOR JJ and the team that night and rock the wall like old times!!!!

The Nov. 14th game at the Snake Pit (against Cameron) is not an exhibition game. It is a regular season game and will count in our regular season record.

The exhibition game will be two days earlier at the Super Pit....against TAMU--International.

I had a 25 year old Swedish lass 'babysit' me in 1979...yes, it is fun.

Okay, that is very confusing, extremely intriguing, but confusing.

 Are you an english professor at UNT? Kram is real good about letting folks who don't live here Denton know whats going on, and you have to critique & criticize it. Give it a rest.
