0-12 team, shoddy stadium for the next couple years, mediocre fan support. How would you sell this school to a high school prospect?

I'm thinking:

A) A new stadium when you're a junior and starting

B ) Tangible increase in alumni contributions showing growing support for the football community

C) An opportunity to build something from the ground up instead of riding on established coattails

D) More playing time opportunity

I think I'd really focus on C. Find the kids that want to start something and take pride in what they've built. Just as you can't teach size, you can't teach heart either. Heart breeds leadership and leadership breeds success.

What would you do?

I would go with early playing time as #1. The possibility of an 0-12 team shows no one has entrenched themselves as an impact player. Then the greatness of the current athletic complex as #2, with a chance to play in a brand spanking new stadium as #3.

I agree with you on C. I think you gotta really sell the potential and the future. Tell them they have the unique opportunity to get in on something at the ground level before it really takes off. I'd use phrases like "its just a matter of time." Confidence is always attractive. I think Dodge has it, even if its been shaken a bit this year. I think he still believes he can turn this program around into a winner.

If all of that doesnt work, I might suggest a field trip to Asian Tan on Northwest Highway.

You basically have to sell them on C.

A? Other schools have stadiums just as impressive as the new one will be, but their players get to play in their stadiums all 4 years.

B? Other schools have proven support.

D? Yes, some players will be attracted to the opportunity to play right away; but that means so much more if in their junior and senior years they can look forward to winning.

1) All the PB&J you can handle

2) Many of the girls are easy (equal opportunity side-comment: all guys are easy, duh)

3) Delicious rivers of chocolate fudge

4) As cool as Austin, plus it's close to Dallas and Fort Worth; it's like buy 1, get 2 free.

5) If you're really good and go to the NFL, you'll be remembered and honored more, because it doesn't happen often here

6) The Riley addendum: fight for a job at UT, or have it guaranteed here

7) They sometimes film amateur porn nearby (see #2)

8) Playing at UNT's new stadium is good for the environment, so you can make the world a better place by learning to football

That's all I've got for now, other than what you guys said. There's plenty more, but none I can think of that would appeal to an 18-year old football recruit.
