OK, serious question...with Tampa Bay and Philadelphia in the World Series, will anyone care and will anyone watch? I would imagine there will be a little interest since the Rays went almost from worst to first in one year (are you paying attention Texas Rangers?), but I would imagine FOX network is crying BIG TEARS over this match-up.

What say you, baseball fans? For me...it's a big "who cares", but may tune in after one team or the other wins at least three games. Up to then...absolutely no interest at all. But, as you might recall, I am not the biggest pro spots fan out there nor at all the biggest pro baseball fan. So, for those that are...what do you think? AND who do you think will win? Will either team?

Of course I care.

The worst to first isn't the problem. The issue is neither team has a national following and Tampa is a pretty small media market(I think Philadelphia is a decent sized one, but there aren't many Phillies fans outside of it). I expect the ratings will be on the low side.

As far as who wins? The Rays have more talent on paper and Philadelphia has had a week off. And yet, I have a feeling the Phillies might win this thing. However, for now, I'm predicting Rays in 6.

The worst to first is the *only* reason I may care. 99% of my being doesn't care. If it were a NY team and Boston in the world series, I my not-care factor would be 100%.

Phillies have a terrific bullpen, especially in the 8th and 9th innings. They have serious power in their lineup (especially Rollins, Utley, Howard, and Burrell) and some solid starting pitchers. I can certainly see Tampa winning, but beware of the Phillies.

And I am not a Phillies fan. Would be fine with me if the Rays won it.

looking forward to watching the Rays pull a true life Major League!!

Maybe they can have Price come out with a leather jacket, mohawk, and Wild Thing blaring in the background.

When isn't a professional baseball game a boring matchup? Just wondering and wanting to see if anyone is awake early this morning!

Great game last night from start to finish.

Hey KRAM1, the paint drying championships are on ESPNIII tonight. The preempted MISL to bring you something more entertaining.

LIFER...MISL???? Major Indoor Soccer League??? Is that6 still going on????

BTW...Celtic played Manchester United yesterday....Man U won 3-0 in a very VERY exciting Champions League game...except for a couple of questionable "off sides" by the ref crew!

Did't take nearly as long as last night's Series Game which came in at a "rapid" 3 hours and 23 minutes.

13 total hits in a 3hr 23 min. game between both teams....yep, a real barn burner for excitement that one! Eight different pitchers...geezzzzz, can't someone pitch a complete game these days????? How ver exciting are those pitching changes???

OK, just "pulling your chain" a bit....while I did not watch the game, I am sure baseball fans were happy with the game and the "excitement" level. I'll watch after one team or the other has 3 wins...then the game will finally mean something....

I still say "WORLD SERIES"...what a joke...I believe only one country is playing and only one country is allowed to enter this "WORLD" chapionship!

That is something that the 3 major US Pro Leagues claim though. MLB, NBA, NFL all call their champion the "World Champion" - though occassionally you will see a team refered to as the SuperBowl Champion in the NFL.

The NHL - being started mostly in Canada has it more correct terming the league winner the Stanley Cup Champion.

Say's the biggest fan of the biggest snoozer sport on earth, next to chess............which is soccer. :D

Rick

Baseball is a series of minute strategies played out in front of an ADD world. It takes patience to watch, but it's what I grew up with. I'll watch any baseball I can get to. I watch collegiate summer league, college ball, minor league ball, major league ball. Hell, we've even been to a couple games for this reallllly crappy league here called the Continental League. My daughter and I went in May, and I swear there were less than thirty people in the stands. We got about 6 balls from that game!

Contrarily, I can't stand basketball. To me, if you had the 1998 Chicago Bulls playing against Denton ISD elementary school, the score would be tied with two minutes left, and the game would be decided in a never ending series of intentional fouls leading to a free throw contest. I know that's not the reality of the game, but I wasn't brought up watching basketball, so it bores me more than watching the paint dry on a set of chess pieces. However, if you like basketball, more power to you.

To each their own in their sporting tastes, and I think it's a bit low class to insult the taste of others Rick. Please note that I otherwise greatly respect your posts and efforts towards UNT athletics.

OK, let me say this...I took absolutely NO offense to Rick's comments regarding soccer...nor do I to anyone else who "jabs" me about my love for the "beautiful game". I know it's all in fun and I agree 100% with your comment, OLDGUYSTUDENT, about "to easch their own" when it comes to the sports they choose to follow. I am "pretty tough" on the baseball guys on this board and they respond in kind to my soccer comments...all in fun...at least from my side of the thing.

Baseball to me is a "players game". It was the ONLY sport I was even remotely decent in when I played (and I did play both football and baseball some in HS) as a catcher...love that position...QB on the diamond...everything in front of you...great position to play! BUT, it puts me to sleep watching on TV and often in person...with the exception of some RoughRider and college games.

So, look for more "baseball" comments down the road....with a big dose of soccer "greatness" thrown in the mix. But, let's do keep it friendly...wouldn't want to get anyone thrown off the board....well, maybe Quoner needs a "red card" from time to time...BTW...where is Quoner???

He's sort of like the dog spot...gets under your feet every time you walk in the door and you get upset with him always being around and under foot, but when he's gone for awhile you tend to think to yourself..."I wonder where old spot is?"..... QUONER???? certainly no admin banned you...or did they???

A spectator sport.

I, myself, am a fan of the spectators. The field sucks, but watching the fans spin stats around like they do is quite a sight.

I do like the experience in general: going to Diablos games growing up in El Paso on .25 hot dog night was one of my favorite things to do. The promos, organs, food and drinks make it a great to-do for the fam.

I used to schedule my El Paso business trips around the Diablos' schedule. Man, what a crappy stadium, crappy league, but unimaginably good time! I don't think they have 25c dogs any more, but they still have $1 beer Thirsty Thursdays! I went to one game once on another day of the week, and they announced that if the Diablos accomplished (insert random baseball feat here) during the next inning that beers would be $1 for the duration of the game. You've never seen such rabid cheering for an independent league baseball team!

Actually, I know more than a few El Pasoans who follow the Diablos as if they were a real team. When they made the playoffs last year it was kind of a big deal to some locals.

Those games used to be rockin'. Diablos have a pretty good history. Go back to the days of Jim Paul management (I think it was "Jim"? He went on to be AD @ NMSU for a while), and they were so successfull under him.
