Just a hypothetical...

- The BOR approves the fee in November.

- State legislature moves quickly on education bills, and the fee is added to the education code by the end of February.

- Dr B and BOR approve stadium project, and ground breaks in late March 2009.

- Things go so well in construction, that the stadium is completed in just 16 months rather than 18...

- Stadium opens in September 2010.

Sorry, not enough design time.

Jerry World was started before the final design was complete so it is not unheard of. (This firm is also the one that design Jerry World so they have experience in building/designing on the fly.)

Haven't there been like 3 or 4 deaths so far of workers on the stadium ??? Anyway it's related to JJ wanting the thing done too soon ??

You might be right. Flyer and sure not trying to be negaitive. But, it seems like a longshot. And, especially with a Leed certified facility. I have not heard yet as to what degree of Leed Certification that UNT is attempting. Construction documents and the such just take a while to put together. UNT does have HKS, one of America's best firms, indeed. But, turning it around that quick will be very interesting.

And, on another level, do they have to raise the other $30 million before construction begins, or can they get loans to continue.

We have a $21 million Senior center, Leed certified building, with construction starting soon....it has a May 1, 2010 projected opening. But, we have been working on the project with design and construction documents for a long time.

I would do nothing BETTER than to say WOW if a 2010 date is announced...but, I still believe a 2012 date could happen easier than 2010, but I sure don't have the inside info that you have....So GRAND luck!!!!!

I don't much about construction, but by comparison: Ownby stadium was demolished starting in late October, 1998. Ground was broken on Ford Stadium in 1999, and the new stadium opened on September 2, 2000. That's from Wikipedia.

We don't have the demolition work, though there will obviously be considerable excavation to do. But if the engineers are really ready to go, SMU's timeline suggests it might be possible to open in 2010.

However, after waiting so long for a new stadium, I can easily wait until 2011 if that's what it takes to do it right.

The BOR and Legislature things aren't the problem.....creating the architectual drawings of the final plan is.....this will cost 3.5 to 4 million and take 4-5 months to do....so to get this done means spending the 4 million before all of the bor and legislature and higher ed board are done. Don't know if the can do this , but if they can and they contracted to have the blueprints done ..let's say in Nov, then perhaps with luck it could be done for the 2010 season, or at least part of it, but they have to get moving.....break ground first of March timeframe....would love to see this happen...would also help with recruiting.

If RV and the board want to save a lot of money , I know of several posters who would happily take out some anger to do the demolition for free of charge and it would probably only take a few hours

I was thinking about the same thing, 2010 does look likely...

Just depends how fast the AD wants to arrange the timeline, there is no demolishing of a stadium, the final design will be available next month, the money finally there, and the land is ready to go...

Im sure everyone on the board is ready to help out with a shovel and wheelbarrow to break ground.

When I talked with RV a few weeks ago about increasing the stadium's capacity he told me when the vote passed. He would work to get the stadium built ASAP. His exact words. He has waited for this for a long time and so have we. No reason to prolong the timeline to 2011.

Also remember Dodge was promised a stadium for 2010 and Dodge said that was still on track.....

I do not mind 2011 because maybe that will get our football program more in order by then. I do not see a reason to rush things...if it takes an extra year and we do it right and great then I would rather have that personally.

All I know is that I really-really hope they keep the water front and it looks close to what is in the promotional video - and I hope UNT has many other great surprises up their sleeves!!

In light of what has happened thus far this year I can understand your trepidation about opening the stadium only two years from now. However, look at it this way...Dodge's first recruiting class who played their freshmen year would not get to play in the new stadium. It would also give players like Drake and Santiago a chance to play there in the stadium's inaugural year.

I do however, agree that it shouldn't be rushed if that leads to mistakes. Selfishly though, I stand a better chance of being around in 2010 than I do in 2011.

Who knows....I sure hope they do it right and don't half-ass this thing...we have waited a long time for this so better to stretch things than to half ass it. We need to be thinking about us being in a better conference and being a top 25 team in just a few years. Let's not think small about this...please.

We must do what we can to live as long as possible in order to see our dreams come true.

The building site has nothing to get in the way of construction.....just dirt work. No tearing down, no moving things......just dirt work. IMHO, the construction process should go faster than Ford stadium.

Jack, stay on that diet and exercise program. I want to see you walk into that new stadium.

What? Are you really really sick or something?

Anyway...Flyer, if you aren't already in with them, talk to whoever is the current UNT Gov't liaison now that Uncle Walty is gone. Since Myra will probably be writing/sponsoring the bill, getting it written prior to the start of the legislative session would be helpful in pushing education code stuff up in the calendar. Also, who is on the TX Leg. Calendar Committee? Get in touch with them as well and explain why it's important to make this an early vote, especially since it's just a rubber stamp vote anyway. Actually, that is something we could all do. Let me know if you guys want me to poke around and get their info.

Minor changes are still being made in order to bring it in under budget. For example, the lake will probably be removed.
