As we sit around kvetching (or is it kvelling?) over the vote's outcome, I thought this current UNT student's blog post on why he supported the proposal was worth reading:

http://ntmescan.blogspot.com/2008/10/new-stadium.html

Among his reasons: "I know our campus isn't Princeton or Harvard, but it is decent looking. I chose this school because it looked like somewhere I would be proud to attend (among other reasons). When it comes down to it, we like nice things. Fouts isn't nice. They have to rig it up to get a game going. It is embarrassing compared to other stadiums similar colleges have. Fouts looks like a high school stadium."

I thought this comment was interesting:

My point is that we aren't a nationally recognized school by most people. Sure some academic types, and music fans know of UNT and its music program "hey, they have a pretty good music program, right? I think someone told me about that or something. " Sound familiar?

What's interesting about it? It's true. When I tell people I go to UNT they either have never heard of it or if they had they always say "oh ya, good music school."

I hate to tell y'all, but when I mentioned the North Texas School of Music to someone last week, they said something to the effect of "the greatest music school".
