The real "hold your breath" game is about appeals. We know we'll have results in less than 20 hours so it's not like they can avoid telling us.

Have any appeals been filed yet? Any whisperings? I'd be shocked if no one tried.

That's the upside of keeping it a secret through the appeals period, though (as I mentioned on another thread). If you don't know the results, unless you have hard evidence of extreme violations, it can be a gamble to even file a dispute. If a violation exists, it exists whether or not you won.

I think if it is a close vote then there will certainly be appeals but if the margin is pretty substantial I am not too sure if the losing side will appeal unless if our side loses. That is my thought.

Can we get James Baker on this it worked in Florida.

The point is, unless there is a leak, results won't be known until the deadline for appeals passes. So you have to file an appeal blind to whether or not you won.

I would assume the period for appeals would not begin until the results were official (?)

Crap, you're right, they changed it. You can file an appeal by 5pm the business day after results are released (Monday). That blows.

I corresponded with the SGA office and asked them how they anticipated any impending demands for a re-vote considering the online debacle. Here is the response:

Yes we are well aware of what issues may arise. However it is up to the election board as to whether a revote would be necessary. There is no reason to have a revote, because there have always been paper ballots available to every student in the SGA office. Once the Election Board certifies the vote that is it. The technical difficulties were also out of SGA's and UNT's hands. Therefore we were not able to fix the problem ourselves. There will be no revote due to the availability of the hand ballots.

Mind you I never phrased my inquiry in a way that could be construed as a threat or as one of taking one particular side. I asked if they anticipated the losing side demanding a re-vote.
