I have wondered the same thing for a few years...seems to me that the BB program is missing a great opportunity to "drum up" support from both the campus and the community. Could be GREAT fun....BUT, some one would have to take the lead and the head coaches would have to be in favor of it...that might just be the answer why UNT doesn't have "madness"....they did, however, give it a half-hearted try once as I recall...

DREX...are you out there? can you enlighten us any as to why no "madness" to kick-off the BB season?????

I heard or read somewhere that many universities stopped the practice of Midnight Madness due to some liability issues. I don't know if it were students partying to much or not, and being out so late, like that would not happen whether there was a practice or not. Used to have these on ESPN from different places when practice started. During the OU broadcast Saturday, they mentioned Kansas had a big open practice Friday night and their gymn was overflowing.

You are correct that attendance was disappointing, but the event was not marketed nor executed properly. Thus, my comment about "doing it right" earlier. If you are not willing to put concerted effort behind getting something like this off the ground and going then don't do it at all. Perhaps that's the decision that was made. Who knows? Drex?????

Well, they did market it towards the students. Trilli actually went to alot of events to speak to students. He couldn't coach worth a damn, but he did know PR.

I'm not sure how well it was done for alumni though.

Many universities have upped midnight madness from midnight to like 7:00 P.M. but very few have cancelled it, I think.
