Florida RB Mon Williams to transfer

Florida running back Mon Williams, who switched to linebacker earlier this season, told the Gainesville Sun he is seeking a release from his scholarship.

The Mesquite, Texas, native told the Sun he will ask to leave in hopes of earning more playing time at another school, and that he would like to be closer to his family.

Williams also said the addition of new running backs coach Kenny Carter has had a negative effect on his career.

Rated the nation’s No. 12 back out of high school in 2006, Williams played in eight games as a freshman, the highlight being a 95-yard performance against Western Carolina. He went into last season as the potential starter, but a torn left ACL derailed those plans, and he was buried on the depth chart this year.

I would not bank on it but it is a possibility of TD tries to go after him. I guess he can play two positions and I think being in Florida for some time...he may be able to give a few pointers to our team as far as psyche goes.

He would really be a great pick up for UNT. He has good size and before his ACL injury he really had some explosive speed. To be honest, from the reports that I read from spring practice and over the summer I really thought this would be his breakout year at UF. I think that he just got lost in the depth chart.
