If the football program remains in free fall, I just don't see how RV can survive the firing of Dodge.

Survive? Are you kidding? If RV fires Dodge it will finally be proof that he knows something about football! If the man will admit he made a mistake and cut ties now, it will be the best thing he's ever done in his career as our AD.

Because he has done such a good job with our defense? You're right he has really proven himself capable of turning around a team... <_<

Do you know that he is allowed to do anything more than the head coach's bidding? Assistant coaches or coordinators are not allowed to talk to the press so we don't really know.

Thanks.

Hmm, he's only been here for what? Just around a season? Even if he was allowed to call his own defensive schemes, he doesn't have the manpower he'd want. Furthermore, if all he's allowed to call are EZ-Bake oven defensive schemes, can you really blame him? Really?

This is ridiculous...I am sure that DeLoach has to go check with Dodge before each "scheme" that he wishes to put together, and even if he did I am even more sure that Dodge would say "you're the DC but I don't trust your ability to call the plays". Just plain ridiculous.

But, never-the-less proves my point with the fire Dodge group, who is only on his 2nd season. You're comment about not having the manpower is my exact point about Dodge, who also doesn't have the manpower he needs or wants.

Given what you say, it could also be said that hiring Dodge shows RV knows nothing about football. I respectfully disagree that RV will gain any credibility or confidence from the fan base if he makes a head coaching change. You may think more of RV if he does it, but unfortunately a lot of fans, both fanatical and casual, are going to be less forgiving of his "mistake". If Dodge does not get this right soon, and RV does have to make a change, his next hire will have to be very exceptional to keep the fans outside of people on this forum on board in their support of the program.

Look, I've called for RV's head before. I'm not saying I'm 100% behind him today. Just check my history. I've been very critical of what has been going on under his watch. However, if he can recognize the mistake he's made and correct it by the middle of December, I'll have alot more respect for him than I ever have. Getting a real head coach on the heels of the stadium vote passage...that would go along way for alumni like me.

Maybe you should hush. RV has done, is doing, and will continue to do, a fantastic job as Athletic Director.

RV legacy at North Texas will be the Sports Master Plan, which includes the new stadium.

The fan base was calling for Dodge, so you can't pin that on RV. Dodge's resume showed he was ready for the move up from HS. The problem is things just didn't pan out for Dodge.

The team has not been able to recover from his early mistakes (mainly his choice of assistants last season).

Moving up from HS should not have been assumed that it was a move up to D1A college head football coach. Maybe an assistant or coordinator would have been more like it.

That's all good and well. But, the only sport with the chance of making money at this level is the football program. What has he done there?

And, whoever it was that said RV shouldn't be held accountable for hiring TD because the fans wanted it: Are you kidding me? RV's job is to find the best candidate for the biggest part of the athletic program - football. I seriously doubt he made the decision to hire Dodge based on the whim of the fans. If that were true, then he'd also pull his head out of his backside and fire him now...because that's what the fans want, right? Amazing.

I don't really think I should be one on here defending Dodge (since I started this thread and all), but Lonnie is way off base with the attacks on RV.

Dodge was a good pick for all of financial reasons related to the program:

-a popular pick to excite the fan base

-a good face of the program to help with the stadium efforts.

The problem with Dodge is the damage has been done.

-He brought in the wrong guys last year and the team didn't get the "growth" it needed.

-Dodge reputation with the fan base is now suspect at best.

-We got the stadium so we don't need a face man anymore.

If Dodge is supposed to be some kind of offensive mastermind, why has this offense gotten worse in year 2? I don't understand it at all.

I believe he's a high school offensive mastermind, not a college offensive mastermind.

From the Dallas Morning News

There are two reasons Carroll has seemed more mortal. One is that the new District 6-5A is one of the toughest in the state. The second is a young defense.

With all due respect to the Dodge family, the offense is just fine.

Okay, shaft, I'll play along for a little bit -

If not RV, then who is responsible for bringing in high school coach Todd Dodge; and, then, letting him bring along his high school coaching staff? Not RV? If the buck doesn't stop with RV, where does it stop? Is he not the "athletic director"? Is football not the biggest sport in the athletic department?

Face it, RV bought the hype of Todd Dodge and should be held accountable for it if he doesn't have the wherewithall to admit he made amistake, fire him, and get someone who knows how to truly build a program on and off the field.

It's this "everyone gets a pass" mentality that keeps our program down. RV does not get a pass with me. He hired RV, he's to blame. He is to be held responsible if Dodge isn't fired.

RV is the man...he has had his heart into this job from the getgo....In case you don't remember...he brought us the AC and now a New stadium and if I recall the attendance at Fouts Dump is still pretty damn high to be playing in a dump with the worse college football team in the nation and probably the worse NT team in history.....I have faith in RV that he will make the right decision concerning coaching to UNT....new coach?...hell I don't know but the evidence suggest a change is in order considering the blowouts week after week...TD, thats not what we are paying you for...and I just can't watch the games anymore...just to painful and life is too short. Anyway, I remember all of the AD's prior to RV and they were not soooooo good.

Lonnie doesn't get it.

Bringing in a new coach means letting him his system/staff. The problem was Dodge didn't have a college level staff and there was no way to know that until they got a few games under their collective belts. We can all see the HS experiment is not working, so the question now becomes how to devise an exit strategy.

-Do you give Dodge a full 4 years?

-Do you give him 3 years with firm performance goals?

-Do you give him 10 more games?

-Do we get a rope?

Of course RV is ultimately responsible for Dodge, but just mean its his problem to handle. The success of the Master Plan and Stadium are much more important than a coaching decision that can be corrected. What Lonnie doesn't get is 19k people are still holding out hope for this program and Dodge, so there is no reason to getting heated at RV for not firing Dodge on the spot.

I'm about as anti-Dodge as you can get (I was one of the only posters on this board that wanted Dickey to stay,) but I still think the guy should get to finish out the season. Hell I think Dodge should even get to come back for season three as long as he wins at least one game this year. But calling for RV's head is just reactionary and silly.

Also, the new head coach needs to ditch the Southlake Green and bring back the darker, meaner Green.

Kelly green was not an invention of the Dodge regime. We change back to the old green, which I happen to like just fine, and the other half of the group will curse the administration for yet another change. Too many cry babies.

Our athletic department would be good at this point without either one. Lonnie is not way off base, but rather on.

I am for this 100%. I still won't buy the new color. I am holding out hope we will change back. Not only does this team play like a high school team, we look like one. I still can't believe how close we look to SLC.

I did notice that Mark Barrows was not able to get any change in how the team showed up to the stadium saturday as it was reported to me that they walked in, in all black again. I guess they are trying to tell us that they are going to their funral ever saturday.

CRAZY TALK. The new green is WAY better. Many schools have that dark green as their color. Our green is original and I like it. Although, I would to see Kelly Green helmets with the current uniform.
