"This election the student body will be presented with quite possibly the most important vote in the university's history. It is crucial that students take the time to study the issue and make an informed decision about this monumental vote. For the referendum to be passed a simple majority must agree to the proposal. Results cannot be announced until 24 hours after polling closes on Friday October 17 at 5 PM. The following is the official referendum that will be on the election ballot:

"In order for the University of North Texas to have a better Athletic program, which in turn can lead to national exposure and increased recognition of UNT; I agree to a dedicated Athletic Fee not to exceed $10 per semester credit hour, capped at 15 hours. Once the Athletic Fee is implemented, the Student Service Fee will be reduced by $3 per semester credit hour. The Athletic Fee shall not be implemented until the semester the new football stadium is complete, which is expected to be fall 2011."

Just out of curiosity does this referendum as worded mean that in the future we will never be able to raise the athletic fee again, say 20 years when again it is not enough? Stupid inflation

If I understand it correctly, this amendment can never exceed $10 per credit hour. If it needs to be more than $10/hr. (or topped at more than 15 hours) in the future it would require an amendment or a new proposal.

I don't see a need to exceed that for a long time. As operating expenses are inflated so are operating revenues.
