Everybody has had their opinion the last few days concerning Dodge and the present state of this team. And there have been plenty of comments about Dickey again, and rightfully so. It made wonder, if Dodge had gone 5 and 6 last year, and was 2-2 this year, what would we be saying? Of course we would be exalting Dodge as a great coach, but would anybody (with the exception of one or two) take time to give Dickey any credit? Just couldn't help wonder what if.........? Just something to think about to break the monotony of the week.

I would probably give dodge the credit.

At this point in time, it is an open question in my book on whether he deserves credit or blame.

Until TD proves he can best Dickey's record, it is all talk and nothing else. I hope he can and hope he will, but he (like every other coach) will ultimately stand or fall on his record, regardless of who gets the blame or credit.

I forgot that we were 2-2 under Dickey's tenure this time two years ago.... That is kinda of impressive... I miss the Dickey OOC games they were so unpredictable... ha ha

Man I would love to play SMU again and get a win at Fouts.... I've said it before but if we had Dickey we would have beaten SMU last year without a doubt.... I'll take an SMU win anytime and anywhere.....

It's a little late for these pro-Dickey threads.

Give Dodge 16 more games, before we pass judgement.

Well, this is not a pro-Dickey thread. It was my attempt just to say "what if" a hypothesis. Dickey is, and rightfully so, taking a lot of blame for our problems. However, if "his recruits" were performing well, would we be as quick to give credit as we are to criticize. Again, THIS IS NOT A PRO DICKEY THREAD! We are much better off with Dodge here, even with this record.

I know what you were trying to do, but the scenario is a no-win. If Dodge, was winning, of course he would get all the credit, because Dickey was fired for not winning his last two years. Taking the same players and winning would immediately prove that he was a better coach.

The question now is whether or not he can build a better program, and he needs at least this year and next year before we start calling for his head. Firing a coach this early in a contract after terminating Dickey would make the next coaching search a complete mess. But on the plus side, we probably wouldn't have to worry about candidates being leaked to Southern Miss message boards.
