Hey Guys,

I would like to know some details on our first regular season basketball game this year that is being played in the snake pit...!!! First of all, the snake pit is the old men's gymnasium correct? I'm not exactly sure where that is...please someone point me in the right direction so I can spread the word to students.

Flyer is right. It is north of the Super Pit. It faces on Highland, an east-west street.

It was originally known as the Men's Gymnasium, dubbed the "Snake Pit." It is now the Ken Bahnsen Center.

It is also true that coach Jones has said he wanted to play a game there.

I wonder if the people who run the Coliseum value our basketball program or robots more?

The robots probably earn more revenue for NT than a game vs Cameron.

I would love to see more games there. It will accomodate most of the crowds we draw and with the atmosphere and noise generated it ther it adds much to the game experience and is an aid to the team. Once we get people being turned away we can consider going back to the Super Pit. It s much more exciting for the fans and the team to have court packed with screaminf fans than one that is 2/3 empty.

I guess you didn't go to many games last year, at the majority of them, the pit was only 1/2 empty

Hopefully they will reinstall the bleachers along the sidelines that are missing from those photos. Don't know how they would do it, but they use to have the old wooden "roll out" bleachers along the sides and baselines plus the "upper deck."

We beat Cameron by like 53 or something last year. I expect something akin to that this year. Hopefully we get to work all the newbies out, as we have Oklahoma State right after that.

Uh no. The men's gym as configured today would not hold a normal NT basketball crowd. The seating and sound is terrible. One game and you will appreciate the Pit more than ever. And you might think about the concession and restroom facilities there too. ;)

That is a stretch. I did not look this up, but from what I can remember we only had 3 crowds over 5,000 last year, which would be half of the pit. Most of them were around 3500, which would it nearly 2/3 empty...but it WAS 3/2 rowdy...

3/2 rowdy is a wild overstatement!!!

It was more like 5/4 rowdy.

I'm looking forward to this just for something different. I say the team wears throwback vintage jerseys and we all come dressed in 60's attire (someone will have to fill me in one what they wore back then...two decades before my time)

      I would say there are clearly 3 groups right now. The separation in some areas is minimal so some teams still have hope of climbing out of the cellar and into the middle of the pack, from the middle to the top 1/3 all the while the top tries to cling on to the top. This time of year is always the most interesting. It's a slow cement of authority for the top 1/4-1/3 to cruise the last month vying against themselves for tourney seeding.

      Yes CC Kid .. I noticed the same. Great effort - mostly in 2nd half. Slow starts have hurt. We can rule out a couple games, but this does seem to be fairly common. And you can see the diff. when it happens. just look a the NT vs Memphis mens game .. intense from the start and entire game focus affected. But hey, the teamsare doing really well this year !!

      PAC is back

      I grew up with "Eagles" and have never liked " Mean Green ", because we are not mean [look at our football record ] and not green [ we have an underfunded athletic department.] I agree with lack of media contracts as a deal breaker but don't know if we would want the travel required for all sports anyway. The BIG MOUNTAIN WEST podcast brought the subject up stating that the PAC and Texas State were in serious discussions and if they came then UNT or UTSA would be their next logical target so you may want to watch it. I don't have an opinion as I am really surprised that NIU joined the MWC for football only. According to the MAC bylaws you must have all your programs in the conference in order to be a member. Unless they change them then NIL's best option appears to be the MVC for all other sports but who knows.

      as a lot of big time coaches have said... if you want to immediately improve your team, getting everyone's effort levels up will do that... Since McCasland started his run, the Mean Green have been all about effort, and Hodge has done an excellent job of transitioning into the HC role. It's been talked about ad nauseum, but the Mean Green have an identity. The identity is f*ck you, you aren't going to get easy passes, be able to breathe with the ball in your hands and you're going to be complaining to the refs all game about how physical the team is. It's going to be ugly, and we are betting that we are going to be better than you in the last five minutes of the game. Credit to Hodge for bringing in the right players to keep this thing moving forward. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and hoping for some hardware
