Quoting myself from the prediction thread (cocky?), because I think FIU's previous 0'fers are meaningless to this season:

FIU so far this season has put up 10 at Kansas, 0 against Iowa, 9 against South Florida, and then 35 for their lone win over Toledo.

They held a damn good USF team to 17 and came within a score of the upset in the opener of their new stadium, so they CAN play a little defense... in their first two games Kansas and Iowa both hung 40+ on them, but since then they held USF to 17 and Toledo to 16 -- so against closer competition, they've been competitive. In fact, Toledo had put up 54 and 41 points respectively in the previous two weeks against ranked Fresno St. and E. Michigan.

BUT -- even though they finally broke out and put up 35 on Toledo, they only threw the ball 13 times for 98 yards, while running it 45 times for 141. Not the best output, but they'll control the clock.

Paul McCall, their starting QB, has 1 TD to 5 INTs. Reams and Ned, their two headed backfield, both have over 40 carries yet neither one averages more than 3.3 per carry.

They were +4 in the turnover column with Toledo, and that's how they won... they were down 13-0 in the first quarter, and then the Rockets started giving the ball away. They were -1 against Kansas and Iowa, and even against USF -- so, it's safe to say they play conservatively and don't make many mistakes.

Basically, if there is an offense we have a prayer in slowing down all year, this is the one. That's not to say we'll win -- FIU plays a little defense and generally doesn't make many mistakes -- but they are HORRIBLY vanilla, low-output, and devoid of big plays on offense. This will really show us how bad it is or isn't for DeLoach's boys.

Note also that one of Toledo's losses was 55-54 in double overtime against Top25 Fresno State.

More FIU facts.

FIU runs a spread offense, with a TE and a H-back. The H-back is a very talented

freshman, T.Y. Hilton, 5-10, 175, excellent speed. Hilton has a 74yd TD punt return,

and a 37yd TD pass. Very young team, with 23 freshmen/red shirts seeing action

in their 4 games. 10 true freshmen and 5 redshirts are on the O/D two deep.

Starting QB, jr Paul McCall, 32/70, 272yds, 1 TD pass; so Wayne Younger, 14/29,

178yds, no TD's is the B/U but does play alot. The team 3rd down conversions

are roughly 1 out of 5, but, on 4th down conversions, 5/5. After 4 games, the

offense avg's 196 total yds. Opponents have scored 48 points in the 1st qtr,

and 43 points in the 2nd qtr. Defense is a basic 4-3, with multiple looks.

The DT/NG 2 deep are all seniors, the 2 starting DE's are seniors, with

2 freshmen DE's as back ups. The defense gives up 192yds offfense per game,

with 112yds via pass, and 84yds rushing.

Toledo helped FIU with several costly turn overs in FIU's 35-16 win last week.

Against South Florida, FIU scored their 9 points in the final minutes in the 17-9 loss.

Iowa manhandled FIU, 42-0.

FIU is compairable to NT in several areas, but, I do believe NT will handle FIU

next Saturday.

As a comparison, Kansas shut La Tech out winning by 29 to zip; FIU scored 10 on Kansas and lost by 30. Seems FIU fared better against Kansas than did La Tech.
